Anyone who has played at a decent level of footy know that these are an absolute last resort. Always play the way you are facing feedback and let the player out the back with a full view of the play ahead take an option.
That was a massive difference between Us and the eagles in the second half, they were hand balling until they hit someone in space who would then take the kick. Us on the other hand especially Barlow were snapping over there shoulder straight to eagles or two on ones etc. this would not be accepted even at my local club. Multiple times there were a number of dockers waiting out the back for a handball. Even Sandilands tried to snap over his shoulder instead of feedback, it was crazy?
This may have been a deliberate ploy because we went in so tall and expected to take a lot of high contested marks but it will never be as effective as using space.
This is why playing three ruck men was a failure. Kicking long to a contest will never be as effective at hitting up a lead, the resulting shot even less so, I would back mayne in a set shot over any of our three ruck men.
Drop Griffen bring in Walters and play to our strengths, I haven't given up hope of this season, we are still experimenting, players are unfit. The best is yet to come and the second half of the season will carry us in good form if we make the finals.
