We've won the free kick count twice, drawn it once and lost it 5 times. Says everything really.

A stat needs to have some relevance to say anything, this stat means absolutely nothing.

People I think are more peed off by the lack of consistency of decisions through a game, even week to week.

Rules largely open to interpretation, 3 different people making the calls during a game, each judging things in a split second, differing situations, none of this lends itself to consistency in decision making. It's easy for us with the benefit of replays and different camera angles to call the umpires out.

You will never get total consistency but if you want to make the umpiring less noticeable, which should be the aim, simplify the rules so that everybody can understand them.

Personally I think it comes down to the quality of the umpires officiating in the games, I think there’s a big gulf between the best and the worst and they are ruling on the same rules and interpretations.

Many simply need to get a lot better

I comprehend it, but it makes no difference for us to say "we should develop our players better" or "the umpires should officiate better".

Neither actually impacts anything...it's just supporters sharing their opinions. If you don't wanna discuss the umpiring, then just avoid the umpiring thread.

How anyone can defend these muppets after yesterday is beyond me. Tried their best to drag North over the line all day.

We have been crucified five games in a row now starting with the * game. It’s getting beyond ridiculous.

-Apparently you can smash someone studs up if he is wearing navy blue (would be a straight red in soccer).
-Some of the bullshit frees in front of North’s goal were beyond a joke. (Plowman HTB with zero opportunity, Mahoney diving to insinuate in the back against Simmo, some sort of interference by Murphy against Bailey Scott)
-That sequence of deliberate calls against Doc and then non-call for North.
-North received every 50/50 free
-Holding Cripps at every opportunity is allowed now

It’s a credit to our boys for hanging on the way they did.

It seems like we consistently get the short end of the stick when it comes to inconsistent umpiring decisions.

Great example in yesterday's game when we had 2 deliberate out of bounds decisions go against docherty which were 50/50. A couple minutes later another 50/50 deliberate out of bounds doesn't get paid against port.

That enough relevance for you?

If any player complains about a free kick, 50m penalty. If any player appeals for a free kick, free the other way. If any player has a whinge about a free that wasn't paid, a free the other way.

Let's take the emphasis away from what the umpires are doing, and look at the ugliness of what the players are doing to our sport. Playing for free kicks and whinging when you don't get them are not footy acts.

It seems to have crept into our team a lot in recent weeks and it's not a great look. Also if our players appeal to the umps too much, they may not pick out the 50/50 calls as much because they get the impression we are playing for free kicks.

I'm inclined to say the umpires need to let the game flow better - 56 frees in a shortened game is too many for mine.

Watching Adelaide v * in 30 seconds late in the 3rd quarter, 3 holding the ball calls ALL wrong. It just made me laugh. So much easier to reconcile when you are not invested. No conspiracy against Carlton I just think the umpiring is particularly poor.

Absolutely shocking umpiring, it appears its not a carlton thing, the umpires are actually performing pretty terribly this year. I don't know why, maybe it's all these confusing rule changes, somethings gotta be done though, its ruining games.
