I know it doesn't matter seeing we won and this thread might only look like im stirring shit, but seriously i can't help but feel the umpires absolutely KILLED us tonight. It seemed everything went against us... but maybe it just felt this way for the first 3 quarters coz we played so badly.
Thoughts?

They didn't pay frees to either side which would have usually been payed which was better than giving alot of soft free kicks imo.

But yes Port did get a few lucky decisions that went their way and we got a few bad one's whilst inside 50.

The umpiring decisions were 12-16 to them so it wasn't one sided. Though I'd like to note there were plenty of decisions that certainly were close to costing us the game. I'm not one to whine after such a great victory but the one against Gibbs for holding the ball and decision not to pay Fisher the free kick when he was punched in the head going for a mark was disgraceful. There were a few others that caught my eye but we have the 4 points and are sitting 2 points out of the 8 and thats all that matters!

I know it just seems that the rules for arm chopping dont apply for fev.. i actually dont remember the last time he actually got a free. And fishers and simmos and heaps of others that were missed. NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!
oh well makes the win all the sweeter and makes my beer all the tastier!!

It wasnt the free's that were paid, it was the free's that werent' paid.

eg: Fev had his arm chopped soo many times tonight!
fev was held during a chase on a port player
grabbed by the arm and thrown
it also happened to someone else
cant remember who
obvious free kicks were missed

Lots went unnoticed in the last quarter. We had a few lucky ones but I thought overall there were about 7 or 8 that would have been paid if it was the first quarter at Princes Park in front of the Harris Stand!

Umpires were crap.

you guys are right fev gets nothing and it just makes him angry then he does somethin silly but i would too.

thought hampson did a good job but the amount of ruck contests were grogan had his hands in his back or his shoulders or threw him out of the way with no free kick was appaling.

Just think that at old aami stadium the umpires go with the crowd.

Massive win best in 5 years i reckon and it makes it even sweeter that it was against port. cant stand them. kreuz and hampson were great, murph, juddy and as much as ive been hard on him russell played his best game in the navy blue jumper. also even though fev was double and triple teamed he always bought the ball to ground well done fev.

Same, but it was completely opposite to what we have seen over the first half of the year. Still, didn't really think they had any influence over the game.

i dont think they influenced the game either, but having said, port did get a lot going their way.
to be honest, who cares? we had one of our best wins of the year (or past 3 years) and showed plenty of heart

Can't believe the uneducated nonsense on this thread... people want more free kicks paid??? How ridiculous!! The best games are the ones where the umpires let the game flow and only get involved when there's absolutely obvious free kick. Yeah Fev got his arms chopped, and yeah there might have been some holding behind the play, but the less of these soft types of frees paid the better. Thumbs up umps... didn't do a bad job.

thought the umpires were good AND bad tonight. they just let the game go which was good for the wet conditions. But obvious free kicks such as fisher's head high contact, Fev's chopped arms, Murph's too high and MANY MANY more both for and against Carlton were not paid.

thought them letting the "push" (fall) in the back go was fantastic seeing as it was wet and crap conditions to keep your feet.

umpires still need to have a good look at the tape for next week though.

spot on Naso... but there were some obvious ones that really do need to be paid in order for them to be consistent (i.e. chopping of Fev's arms)!! otherwise a job well done for the umps, in the hardest conditions to umpire in too! :thumbsu:

The umpires let it go alright ..especially when the ball was in our forward line..

Fisher was absolutely smashed across the head in a marking contest 20 metres out .

Scotland was held by the jumper while going for the ball on the edge of the goal square .

Port player picks the ball up and runs 5 metres to the boundary line , forward pocket..he sees he has nowhere to go ..he backs across the line .

Port player attempts to rush a behind and knocks the ball out of bounds.

Brogan takes the ball out of the rucking contest and hands it to a port player .

The umpires found plenty of ticky touchwood frees to pay to Port players ..but they just seemed to have missed all the Carlton ones .
The umpiring was were inept and we are only taking it easy on them because we won despite their home town bias .

Oh and by the way you are still a troll .

You're not real bright are you, Blues Man?? It's supporters like you who don't understand the spirit of the game, who plea for free kicks like ridiculous deliberate out of bounds, that are going a long way to ruining the game. The more you appeal for soft free kicks to be paid, the more frustrated it makes everyone. If I'm correct the free kick count was 16-12 ... relatively even. The Fisher incident was probably there, however thats the only one that you could hang your argument on. If the others you mentioned were paid, the Port Adeliade supporters would be up in arms. And to further support my argument, Port probably received some comparitively similar free kicks to those listed... and look at you, spitting chips!! You really need to look past your team bias and see the bigger picture and understand the broader concept of umpiring and how it affects the game as a whole, not just how it affects your team.

Troll... I'm only a troll if you continue to take my hook, line and sinker. By the way, can I have them back??

I'm certainly brighter than the bloke who thinks even free kicks makes for good umpiring . Now run along and troll another board.
