I have just watched the game again and picked up how well the game was umpired.
Just done a quick scan through and not a mention of them on the Bombers board or even our own matchday thread. A rarity for a Freo game! (no Razor Ray!)

Thumbs up to the 3 field umps that just did there job so well, the game ran smoothly and no one had made comment about them so that's a 9.5/10 performance. (I'll take .5 off for when Lower didn't pass the ball directly back to the opposition and insteadthrew it to McPharlin who was standing on the mark. Should have been 50m to Essendon :o )

I thought the ump in the middle was way too hot on HTB early in the 1st qtr, but at least he was way too hot for both teams.

Mum threw a slipper at the TV when the umpire didn't pay that push in the back to Ballas.

LMFAO

There were two fifty metre penalties we should have been paid, one to Essendon that should have been paid plus a few dodgy hand in the back/push in the back's paid.

Was thinking after the game that it was probably the best umpiring I've seen all year. I have a theory that there is direct correlation between the amount of hair umpires have and how well they umpire, and no surprise all the umpires on the weekend (as far as i noticed) had full heads of hair.

I'm not sure I agree. Ballas got clearly pushed in the back at least twice in our forward 50 and wasn't rewarded (but he falls under the Farmer rule) and at the very end of the third Hooker threw the ball directly out from our goal. They are just ones that come to me off the top of my head. That said it is not a game a would complain about from an umpiring perspective.

You guys are being pretty generous. The fact that there has been little comment from Bomber supporters indicates they got a very good go. You guys were badly ripped off in the last quarter. Hands in the back was ignored when the offender was an Essendon player.

Also comes to mind is the incident where Tendai got done for high contact when the Dons player ran into him, which resulted in a shot at goal. Another was when Pavlich got taken high then was called out for jumping on the ball, think that was very close to our goals.

We got 2 very generous (IMHO) deliberate OOB calls that had me shaking my head.

Sure, they may "technically" have been there, but seriously, you see that stuff a dozen times a game and it never gets paid.

Winners are grinners and we rarely complain about umpiring after a win. That's footy.

Buggered if I know how that wasn't 50, either all 3 umps weren't looking at Lower or the ump had pointed the wrong way.

We are used to being violated by the umps, so when it doesn't adversly affect the final result it seems to be more of a tickle.

That fact that a thread pops up to toast a *mostly* good umpiring performance, shows just how bad the situation has become.

I was at the game as a neutral supporter, and to be perfectly honest, I didn't think it was very good, some absolutely atrocious descisions, but overall it was pretty good.

That's what I was hinting at ;)

Every gameday thread this year has had a whinge about umpiring, we finally get some no name umpires who give a fairly good account of the game.

I sat down to watch the telecast and when I didn't recognise the 3 umpires names before the first bounce, I told my mate: "We are in for a fair game"

They were a bit weak on Essendon hitting people after a clear mark.

Kepler should have gotten 50 for the shot he eventually nailed, was there every day of the week.
