we have an advantage by being able to see the umpiring for the round before we play.
I have no doubt that they will deny there are specific instructions from round to round to the umpires to crack down on certain rules.
But every game this round has had a higher proportion of 50 metre penalties due to encroachment of the mark.
So if we get pinged for even one 50 metre penalty on Sunday the coaching panel must be held accountable.
Fair warning should be taken notice of and the players must be aware.

Bad Trepanation has ruined the game.

Super LOLS Dave.

Yes they do Dave.
But weve had 5 games to see how they are umpiring this week.
This is clearly an instruction and we must know that they will be quick on the whistle for even a 6 inch encroachment on the mark.
In my opinion, this could cost us the game as I think it's going to be tight.
The coaches must be aware and enforce the rule in the minds of the players.
Inexcusable if we get pinged even once with the fair warning we have.

Good call, coaches should be all over it even if the players haven't caught onto it already. Players watch other games regularly so i would imagine word would get around pretty quick.

I think it's good that they are pinging players for going over the mark. They seem to be creeping over the mark more and more this year.

The rules and interpretation should be the same every week every season.
Play around with the rules and you ruin the game.
This is one of the reason fans are getting sick of AFL.
They used to bitch how the game was slow and they wanted to speed it up.
They changed the rules.
Now the game is too fast and want to slow it down.
Bloody idiots have been running the game.
You do not tamper with something that was already good.
The game used to be simple & so were the rules.
The idiot rules committee have turned umpiring into rocket science !

But they only ping OUR players. That's the problem. The inconsistency when it comes to Collingwood is beyond a joke. Honestly, how does a team get 3 freee kicks in a HALF of football, with one of those quarters being one where we dominate.

Notice that in the 3rd quarter we actually got 5 free kicks (after 3 for the first half) and all of a sudden we were in front? Coincidence much? They even started paying us soft nothing frees in the last quarter when the game was over to even up the numbers. Disgraceful effort.

Umpires are a disgrace. The amount of knee droppers is really starting to shit me.

Having said that we should be relying on those maggots get us over the line. We should have had the game almost sewn up at quarter time and have been 40 points up and in the second we should have been able to limit their run-on much better. 8 goal quarter shouldn't be happening. Tooves hurt.

Umpiring is a huge problem no one can honestly say that a team can infringe 13 times without one free being paid the other way. Seen it twice this year alone.

I heard that umpires are so biased that they are the reason for Cloke's sometimes wayward kicking. Apparently they have threatened Cloke with a free kick to the opposition if when shooting for goal from inside 40m he drops the ball straight onto his boot....

This is all too true. We always seem to be on the losing side of free kicks. Even in 2010-11.

Is it because of ill-discipline? Or is it just bias?

Our best year ever from an umpiring perspective was 2011 and even THEN, we were 7th! So even with the "Premiers bonus" that happens each year, we only just broke into the Top 8 most looked after sides. Tumbled down to bottom 2 or 3 against in 2012 and since. It's not ill-discipline, it's definitely something more. It's happening way too often to be just a coincidence. I"m wondering if it's almost subconscious?

Or, are the umpires coaches instructing the umps not to react too much to the crowd? Given we always have the biggest crowds, maybe they're actively trying to ignore our reactions? Which results in less frees than we'd normally get.

It's worse than soccer. Diving or emphasising foul play in soccer is cultural, it's been done as long as I've ever watched it and it's part of that game.

Our game, however, is meant to be played frantically by big strong men who don't resort to 'staging'.....

Seems that type of philosophy is slowly being eradicated though because the stupid umpires are rewarding players for playing hangman while being tackled.

Maybe we should draft a few thespians.
