I see what that the 'Essendon edge' means now.

Having a coach that personally knows all the umpires and everyone in the umpiring department.

I mean let's get serious here. Carlton and Essendon are 80 odd free kicks ahead of us on the differential in only 8 games. That is 10 frees per game. It is ****ing ridiculous. Umpiring decisions are giving them a 3 goal start in every match compared to us. Take 9 points off them every match and add 9 points to us and see what the ladder looks like. Or go a step further and give us the 3 goal advantage over them, so a 6 goal per game swing, by adding 3 goals to us each game and subtracting 3 goals from them and then look at how the ladder shakes out.

Level umpiring(take 9 points off Bombers and Blues each game, add 9 points to Tigers):

Richmond 3w 5l
Carlton 3w 5l
Essendon 2w 6l

Now reverse and make Blue sand Bombers 3 goals worse off each game with Richmond umpiring, and Richmond 3 goals better off with their umpiring:

Richmond 3w 5l
Carlton 2w 6l
Essendon 2w 6l

Now let's look at the actual ladder, ie the cheat ladder:

Richmond 1w 7l
Carlton 5w 3l
Essendon 5w 1d 2l


The difference between their umpiring and ours has swung 2 matches to losses for us that would otherwise have been wins, and delivered 3 extra wins to both Blues and Bombers compared to our umpiring, plus a draw to Bombers.

why does every single oppo supporter only focus on the frees we give away? It's the frees we dont receive, the fact that every team that plays us somehow manages to halve their average infringements. THATS the issue. They'll ignore that because it's completely indefensible.

Traditionally we were always rated near the bottom of the comp for contested ball wins but a free kick win for a player counts as a contested possession

Would be interesting to see the contested ball numbers without free kicks contested possession counters just to see if our team is statistically more competitive in that department than at first glance over our dominant period

No one has been able to offer a reasonable and logical reason for this yet.
