Just wondering why Moran and others refer to the cops as "Jacks". I have never heard this term before - is only used in Victoria? Please enlighten.

Mainly Victorian - dates back to the goldrush. Was used for MP's during the wars

Was used a lot in Phoenix & Janus too.

Anyone catch the 7:30 report last night? Had a story on the illegal copies of underbelly floating around. Heres a link if anyone missed and wants to see it - http://mpegmedia.abc.net.au/730report/av/podcast/20080227-730-underbelly_video4.wmv

Thanks mate, very interesting.

What i don't understand about 'channel 9 losing money' is that i would be watching it on TV for free anyway. I mean the advertising is already paid for so if i watch it or not, channel 9 don't lose anything. It might lose ratings, i understand that, but lets say 30'000 people in Victoria have already watched it then i don't think it will really effect the over all ratings when they will be aiming at 1'000'000+ viewers.

You don't think advertisers would have pulled their ads once the ban hit or demanded a better deal????

Plus ratings are crucial for revenue. This has cost them plenty. Its rating its **** off for the most part and they can't collect revenue based around that. maybe when the ban is lifted but if it goes on too long the number who have seen it will quickly reach the level of those that haven't and WANT to.

Checked up - it is an old English thing, mainly up around Liverpool that came out with the convicts. Various explanations.

How funny was Dino and Rocco kidnapping Richard Mladenich? Dan Wyllie is a great actor, hope he lasts for a few episodes.

LOL - what a pair of clowns.

My funny moment was when CW tells Roberta to keep their relationship quiet - so what does she do - in such a classy way. LOL:D A real toff that one.

Madeleine West next week. Better see those puppies.:thumbsu:

^LMAO i thought dino dropping the towel after the cop told him to stop looking at her vagina was absolutely classic. Also, dino immediately after that scene being interviewed at the station, and him proceeding to boast about his record "9x in one night" hahaha

Once again, who gives a f***?

Its based on events, not the events of what happened.

I got this off Wikipedia

Pretty much sums it up.
Then why is it that they choose to use phones, computers and cars of 10 years ago?

It is based on the events of what happened, look it up on Wiki, Carl was shot in the gut by Jason Moran, Jason Moran killed Alphonse, Carl killed Mark, etc.

The show is based on the book Leadbelly, most of the events in that book are what we see on the screen, some of it is gonna always be fictitious but it still doesn't mean that they are making all the events up!

It is simple, they rushed the show, I love it so far and will definetly be watching every ep with interest but is it really that hard to have picked up the Pure Blonde tap and a V sign in the background, or the fact that when they show the skyline of Melbourne the Eureka Tower is there.

If the editors had any idea they would have simply airbrushed that stuff out, or not show the full skyline of Melbourne, there are many poor dubbing moments and alot of poor editing, my bet is the editor is a first timer or they rushed the show to get it on ASAP.

I've also noticed how despite being set between 1995 and 2004 everyone is using recent phones and listening to recent music plus signs for modern products etc. I'm not from Melbourne so I haven't noticed the landmarks so much.

As for why it's been so lax regarding this stuff I presume Nine was simply too cheap to fund for props from the time and in post-production Nine was simply too cheap to fund for airbrushing.

They may be recent phones in Perth but I haven't seen bricks like that since the late 90's.

Yeah, the phones, computers and some cars are using the older versions.

Look I am not saying that there is anything necessarily wrong about having such poor editing and post-production work, but if you want to make it authentic and are trying to portray this as 10 or so years ago then make a good effort and do it well, it just makes everything better.

What would you do if you were watching a movie set in the 70's and someone was walking around listening to an Ipod?

Just watched ep 5 and there's a shot of a brand new Toyota Prado and an extremely long prominent shot of an XR8 BA falcon.

This ep, going by the murders committed, was in the year 2000. The BA didn't come out till 2002. Its pretty lazy.

It doesn't bother me that much, but there's still plenty of AU utes around. Surely it wouldn't have been that hard to find one to use instead.

I dont give 2 shits about it being 10 years ago and you see stuff on it that shouldnt WHO GIVES A F U CK just watch it stop complaining.

No one here is complaining about the story line or saying that it's a bad show mate. People are simply analyzing it, which includes production, editing etc, which is generally why forums like this are created. People come on here to talk about the positives and negatives of most shows.
