So as I lie in bed, trying to sleep because I have to catch a flight in the morning, I think about many things.

I've been amazed at the concept of "time" lately. Humans invented it. We rely on it every second of the day (pun slightly intended), yet we never really appreciate it. When you think about it, nearly everything we do relies on time. Work; Sports; Health; Finances. They all use time to properly function.

What are some underrated human inventions out there?

Humans didn't invent time, we just named it, and kept track of it. We didn't invent night and day cycles, the earth revolving around the sun or anything of the sort. We merely studied it and used it as a form of measurement. Humans didn't invent time in the same way that humans didn't invent gravity or evolution.

Yes. But why is one hour one hour and not 40 hours? By naming minutes, hours and days, we have been able to rely on them almost indefinitely.

People can get paid hourly.
People can be told they have so many weeks to live.

It's tripping me out just as much as Gibbsy and his street signs ;)

Not as much an invention as it is a system. Our years are based on the earth revolving around the sun, our days are based on the earths rotation, the concept of hours, minutes and seconds is as relevant as any other unit of measurement, look at the imperial system especially arbitrary units of measurement based on things that are completely irelevant are used on a day to day basis. You could say that Humans invented measurement but then that falls under mathematics in general which is hardly an underrated human achievement.

The needle - as in needle and thread... allowing clothing.. production of sails... flags... and vitally used in surgery

imagine how much of a required skill threading a needle would have been hundreds of years ago
