After last night's loss, we have many posters overreacting. Absurdities such as calling for Vickery to be dropped and Dimma to be sacked. These generic responses after a bad game (delist player who had a bad game)(sack coach) have become pretty old and boring.

I propose we try something new; under react.

I'll start:
We were missing out best tagger which allowed Ablett run freely. We were also missing our mullet man, which threw a hammer in the works of our forward line that was promised during the pre season (Tyrone FF). Our season is not over by a long shot, we had a bad game in less than perfect conditions at the start of the season.

(AKA be realistic thread)

People are talking like we are rubbish under Hardwick. The fact that we went 15-7 last year and were half a game out of top 4 seems to mean nothing any more.

And I agree it shouldn't mean anything for this season, but it should demonstrate that Hardwick is not an inept coach. One loss to a probable borderline top 8 team first game of the year isn't the end of the world; if it is, Sydney are more ****ed than we are.

Our loss in the elimination final was very disappointing, but it was still only a 20 point loss to a far more experienced side. Still a respectable defeat despite the disappointment that went with it. These losses have been blown way out of proportion and the reality is Hardwick has, overall, coached very well throughout his tenure and the results show this. Last night I agree that he did coach poorly, but that's going to happen. He rolled the dice with Vickery deep and Dusty off half back and it didn't come off. If it did, and it could have, we'd all be lauding his coaching and probably celebrating a win. I don't think we'll see him make these mistakes again.

Im sorry but we cant blame important players missing. Gold Coast had just as important players if not better missing.

Bennel and Thompson. Throw in two early injuries to Martin and Dixon. If we miss out on the 4 or 8 by one game than this will be the game we will all go back to.

Great idea. Aubrey Graham says working with the negatives can make for better pictures, but I feel like people took their whipping of Vickery, Petterd, Grigg, and Dimma way too far.

We came back in the 4th quarter to at least lead. That shows to me the determination and the will to get up that the boys had. In fact, we were right in it even in the last two minutes, where we were trailling by 12 points and the umpires were a bit ordinary by not paying that free kick to Dusty. The Suns then used that to their advantage to slingshot a goal. Dusty might have kicked that and who knows what could have happened from there?

We didn't just give up like we did against Carlton in the final last year. We didn't burst out of the gates, tire ourselves out, then watch as the scoreboard turned around 50 points. I'm very happy with that.

Sorry, under reaction is what you get when we lose to Melbourne round 1 of the NAB and they get almost 200 disposals on us. Reaction (not over reaction) is what you get when a trend of being unable to get the job done when it matters continues from season to season.

Gold Coast were not unimpressive but they certainly showed many weaknesses that we failed to exploit. We didn't make the most of our chances, we played the wrong team, and our players were played out of position... also our gameplan stinks.

What was that old saying "treat those twin imposters, success & failure, with whatever" holds true.
If we had won, it wouldn't have made us a great side & losing a game doesn't make us a poor side.

Time will tell whether a loss to GC up there is a badd loss or not, thinking a few will lose up there.

but the players have access to a humid chamber... :(
big enough to train in?

as pissed off as i am, i think carrara is going to be a tough place to play even when GC are just mediocre. like the saints dominating the dome because they know the conditions, training all summer in the humidity will leave you more prepared for those conditions than the others. I think if gc play 11 games there, they will win 8. Like subiaco for west coast, the home ground advantage might be enough to ensure finals even with a mediocre team.

I'm not calling for Dimma to be sacked after 1 game - that's just plain stupidity.

I've always said he doesn't have the tactical nouse to take us all the way. One of the worst gameday coaches in the AFL which was clearly shown last night. Basically gets outwitted by the opposition coach in most games... you think R2 against Mick will be any different?

"he's not good and will continue to be the reason we lose"

Yeah, you're not calling for his head at all...

Yeah.

The op said not to call for his head based on 1 game which is right on the money. I'm saying I have been calling for it for a long time.

He was the bloke to clean up our list and turn this club around.
He was the bloke to get the long lost belief back.
He is not the bloke to coach us to a premiership.

Am I the only one who isn't that pissed off? Although it would have been nice to jag a decent win, it's only round 1. Let's see where we are after round 4 but I think we'll be fine.

Oooo, a thread worth reading.:thumbsu:
It sucked, I hated it, I wanted a win. Thank **** I was stuck at a hen's night (long story) and could only check scores rather than watch.
Those stuck in the oral phase can keep chucking a tantie - you would've sacked Thompson and Clarkson in the years before they won a premiership.
It's one game.
We see what happens next week.
And the week after.
Until everyone breathes into their own paper bag for half an hour, I think I'll steer clear of most threads for the week (except for the Wobbles and the Tanks boards - I enjoy their dummy spits more than ours)

I certainly don't think that it's time to sack Dimma and drop 1/3 of the best 22 to the VFL. Like I said before, Metricon is an absolute c*nt to play early in the year and GCS are very settled now. Worry about the Blues next week, but they looked pretty rubbish tonight as well

Get the **** up out my coaching box confusing me with questions like:
Do you love this club?
Are you mad right now?
Do you ever get nervous?
Are you capable?
I heard you lost Round 1, is it true?
Will you play Jackson?
Will we have 4 points at the end of Round 2?

Gold Coast really are a very good team.

Combined with the fact they are used to the humid, slippery conditions, it's going to be tough for any team to mount an offence up there.
