Gabriel back would be huge, if tomorrow morning comes too soon then perhaps for Villa on Wednesday morning. Light on options in defense otherwise if Hincapie is not to fit to return yet. Could see the same back 4 from the Palace match otherwise.

Once again the margin should have been more, OG stepping up at The Emirates again.

Lost count of how many back 4 combinations that is now.

Raya, what a save. Brilliantly done.

Raya
Oh My God Omg GIF

It’s get better every angle I see. That was huge from Raya. He didn’t have a great deal to do however he was crucial in the finishing stages.

Arsenal have been working extra hard it seems in this last week to win matches than it otherwise should be. Chance creation though remains very healthy.

We need to kill games off earlier in the piece, this little habit lately of conceding late 2nd half goals needs to be eliminated. Martinelli with the most glaring chance, he should bury that. On a platter. Gyokeres in the opening 2 minutes as well. He needed to whack that ball into the net, not tamely tap it into their keeper.

Jesus once again looking very sharp and lively. For someone of his size, his hold up play is also very impressive. In a way he is doing that linking up work better than Gyokeres currently. Doesn’t have the goals yet to show for it however that’s the trade off with Jesus as we know.

Timber, Calafiori out whilst Gabriel returns, that’s the story of Arsenal’s season so far. 1 in, 2 out.

Rice at right back was never something we’d planned for with 8 defenders in the squad, but the bloke just somehow made it work. Phenomenal. What a footballer.

3 massive points and a great opportunity to get one back over Villa in a few days time.

Great strike from Odegaard. We need that much more often from him, if he can come back into form - and player others into form - it's going to be critical in maintaining our spot at the top.

Saka is pretty selfish these days, I feel. Looks for the shot too often. He had a very good first half though, tormented their left side. Odegaard very good too, some of his passess were sublime.

How is Verbruggen not sent off too for the challenge on Gyokeres? Only a yellow is farcical.

That Raya save was fantastic, and I like Martinelli at centre forward. Something we should do more often.

What's important is we got the three points. The Villa game is ****ing huge.

Personally I felt with Gyokeres heading away from goal, and a defender close by as well, yellow was the correct decision.

I think more so we should have had a penalty for Jesus being barged over in the box. No intent to win the ball, it was forceful and bundling him over. Anywhere else on the field and it would be a foul to obstruct like that.

But anyway, it is what it is. Arsenal had the chances to put this game away and didn’t. Killing the games off also allows the likes of Saka, or Rice or Odegaard to have someone else take the final 10-15 minutes from them to manage their workload.

Hoping the attack clicks against Villa as they are enjoying the opposite trend at the moment, over performing against their xG stats compared to Arsenal who are underperforming.

Postives so far this season:

  • 10pts better off on like for like matchups from last season. 6pts up on last season at the same period.
  • 11 goals conceded despite constant changes at the back.
  • 8 wins from 9 home games, only won 11 home games last season.
  • Perfection in the champions league.

Negatives:

  • Currently 2 draws and 2 losses against the current top 5 teams. (3 of those away from home)
  • Injuries, Injuries, Injuries.
  • Only 1 win from 6 games when conceding first.

I understand this thinking, however, after winning **** all for years, beggars can't be choosers. He really needs silverware Arteta or he is gonski. The squad is big enough, injured players are coming back.

Nah, **** the Careless Cup. I'd rather Arsenal field the Under 21's team and first team players needing fitness than bother trying to win it. If there weren't 700 games a season then maybe, but burning players out for something that nobody, even the players, care about is stupid. Especially with our injury history.

Vs Brighton

The Good:

Odegaard was really really good. His ability to hold and turn out of defence, find space as an outlet from the back is exceptional. Everything good last night started at his feet. Great goal as a reward too.

Rice slotting in at RB. What other teams are having to play their 100m star midfielder as a makeshift defender? Didn't look out of place and one gut busting run almost resulted in a tap-in for Saka.

Brighton's defence. They defended exceptionally well and would be unhappy not coming away with a point.

The Bad:

Still struggling to click going forward and finishing off chances. Another O.G. giving us the win.

Gyok turned his man brilliantly early in the first half giving him a decent 1v1 with the Brighton Keeper. He then made a poor choice to meekly stab at the ball sending it straight into the keeper; He should have smashed it OR tried to lob him.

Saka still cooking his chances. Got in behind the Brighton defence late in the second but Dunk was able to get and make a great tackle. Last years Saka would have made it 3-1.

The Ugly:

20 minute periods in games allowing the other team to dominate us. Brighton scored then were looking more likely to score an equalizer than Arsenal were scoring a 3rd.

Next up is a massive massive home game against Villa. They just beat Chelsea 1-2 away and will come to Arsenal knowing they can get 3 points. If we beat Villa that will give us 7 wins 1 draw and 1 loss for December (all comps), despite not playing anywhere near our best.

Still struggling to click going forward and finishing off chances. Another O.G. giving us the win. I know I'm giving my age away here, but when Charlie Nicholas scored twice to beat Liverpool in the '87 careless cup, I c didn't sleep for 3/4 days.

Reaction after "Careless cup" suggests you're wrong.players were rapt. Club has won **** all in years. Beggars can't be choosers.

1987, careless cup, Charlie Nicholas scores two v ing Liverpool of all teams, after Rocky sends us through in the semi v the filth....."careless cup" .... me sideways.
Come on shoei, you're better than that.

Quoting a play from 40 years ago does nothing to change my view.

The Milk Littlewoods Coca-Cola Carabo Energy Drink Cup sits alongside the Community Shield.

I couldn't care less about winning it and don't judge the teams performance on it.

Whenever you reach the semi finals of any competition, you want to win it. Clearly the players do. That was evident in how they celebrated and spoke afterwards. There’s a thirst for trophies.

The EFL Cup on its own is not satisfactory at this stage of Arsenal’s/Arteta’s “project”, however can be a nice complement if you go on to win one of the major trophies (PL or CL).

I’d like to see Arsenal win it, has been a very long time. That January schedule derailed Arsenal last season, Arteta has to utilise the squad well to get through it this time.

From what I've seen Gyokeres has an absolutely lethal strike. Why isn't he using it more? He seems really lacking confidence, that tame shot at the start of the Everton game an example. If he smashes a few in hopefully he can get on a bit of a run.

Havertz a strong chance to be in the matchday squad for tomorrow. That’s massive. Likely too soon to start and need to keep expectations in check given he has missed almost 12 months of football, however having him back in the framework for January is huge.

I think Jesus should start tomorrow morning. Perhaps 60 odd minutes with Gyokeres off the bench as an option.

Timber expected to play as well. Calafiori 50/50.

Massive game and we certainly owe Villa from some recent seasons. The last minute loss a few weeks ago will be fresh in the memory for them.

Probably because he can't get to the right spots and when he does no one wants to pass to a guy with such an awful first touch who will just fall over and lose possession anyway. This guy's not even an upgrade on Nketiah
