According to 3AW - there are around 5 clubs in the hunt for Brett Thornton.

It's well known that Hawthorn have put forward a 3 year deal to Brett already, aswell, Richmond delegate Greg Miller has organised a meeting with Carlton on Thursday.

Kangaroos and Essendon are also beleived to be keen...

anyone have any idea who the 5th club would be ?

Very happy that were at least interested in him. We should offer Laycock, would be a very fair straight swap.

Straight swap!.............I don't think so.

It's an absolute joke that he hasn't been signed up yet.....what the $#@% are we waiting for????

He's worth a lot more than the $210K per yr.......he deseves AT LEAST $280K per yr.

On the weekend a news service had the story of the Dawks being intrested in him and mentioned Carlton are looking to decrease their salary cap......I would have thought if we wanted to decrease the salary cap we would have signed up Thornton and let Kouta retire.......(as much as I love Kouta - something tells me he won't be part of our team when we next play in a Grand Final).

I guess any team that names Zac Dawson at fullback would be offering any backman of quality at least 3 years.

T-bird will be our strongest backman for years to come and we cant begin to underestimate his value to us. We MUST do everything we can to retain him.

The fact that Thornton is in a team that gets beaten every week, he doesnt get the credit he deserves. In another team, in another backline that doesnt get flogged each week, he'd look alot better and be considered a premiere defender. Other clubs know this, and we should be wary.

im gonna go out on a limb and guess the 5th club to be Port Adelaide .. I dont know why ? but it seems a logical guess - I think ?

I was personally thinking Brisbane might be interested.

Everyone knows that Mal Michael is disgruntled and maybe they will be looking for extra strength down back in case he pulls the plug on his AFL career.

Yeah Brisbane would be a good guess :thumbsu:

Gee......maybe 5 clubs have got it wrong.....and the posters on here saying he's crap are right.

Sign him now......end this joke!
Same goes for Simo and Fisher.

And note to Hutchie....PSSST - Bower didn't debut against Sydney.
I just can't believe a "Journo" from the age gets facts wrong, they are usually so good....:D

In all honesty i rate thornton but if he wants to go i say GO!! see what they offer us , as good as he is he is never gonna be scarlett or fletcher if we can get over the odds for him why not ??? he's a 2nd or 3rd defender i dont know of how many 3rd talls are on 300k ? lets as the tigers for tuck he is young and a hard ball winner exactly what we need, anyway just my opinion .
(waiting for the abuse)

I would never ever ever ... trade Thornton for Tuck ...

They would have bent us over big time with that deal.

Thats the biggest concern for me. It seems as if Graham Smorgon is prepared to let our future go just so the books look prettier under him, by refused to pay these kids what they are worth. I think Pagan's hands are tied on this ones, I'm sure he would love to get these kids signed up ASAP, but Smorgon wants to cut some corners and save some pennies.

Ian Collins and Graham Smorgon are a couple of jokers in my opnion- Fraser Brown is right, the current board is doing nothing for the football club and need to be disposed of ASAP.

From the Tigers - I'd take Coughlan because we need a classy in and under midfielder who is still considerably young - although injury prone :(

But I really couldnt think of any players (who would realisticaly be on the table) that I would straight swap Thornton for. Picks all the way.

In your wet dreams mate, not a chance.

I agree, not a chance what is he saying, we'll just offer him a 3 year deal worth 350,000 and pick him up in the psd at number 2, if carlton picks him up at number one thats will be ok because then we would have stuffed carltons administrations plans for the future.

win win for us.

Why would we select him at number 1, when we can just resign him??? And there are 14 other clubs availible to trade with- the last club we would want to deal with is you

How about these ones if we decide to trade T-Bird

Thornton to Hawthorn.
Polak to Carlton.
Hawthorns 2nd Round pick to Fremantle.

Or

Thornton to Essendon
Laycock & Essendons 2nd round pick to Carlton

No and No.

Polak hasnt shown nearly as much as T-bird. Same with Laycock. I may be (probably am ;) ) over-rating him but when your defense is as p1ssweak as ours you need to keep any decent backman you have. Whether he is the 1st,2nd or 3rd key defender.
