It is becoming increasingly obvious that we have forgotten how to use the corridor.

This may be due ot the ineptness of our forward line ,the changing personnel, a general loss of confidence in the way we play or a poor game plan - I hope it is not the latter.

We tend to come into our forward line in an arc from the point of the 50 m line where the 50m is painted on the square to the boundary line - this is very wide.

This makes it very difficult to score goals - low goal scoring range and means that we mover the ball crab like around the boundary line a la Ayres years.

The excitement and energy of the team has evaporated. We seem unwilling or incapable of squaring the ball or switching the ball. I wonder whether we are a bit like the Kangaroos of last year.

The problem is that the implementation of this method of play is not working. We have lost as many games as we have won.

Is it time for a change? Should we attempt to be a bit more daring and take some risks? Have we got anything to lose given that we simply dont have the class on the park any more to win consistently.

Your thoughts??

Concur. Kick long into the 50, even if to a contest. Make sure the crumbers are coming in at the feet of the pack or behind it depending on the wind. Some things in footy never change no matter what grand 'game plans' the coaching staff hatch.
We kicked long against the Hawks and look at the result.

I'd like to see us use the corrider < by foot > and less handball.

12 handballs in 15 meters to flatfooted crows about to be cleaned up due to compounded pressure will kill us this weekend in such an intense game.

But we need a target and crumbers. I think Burton and Welsh need to work it out in the forward lines...the old one up one down went out the window last weekend.

Bocky Sarge or Kenny are good corridor targets between centre and half forward we just need some confidence to kick it instead of finesseing it to an outside player under the pump.

Sure we should use the corridor where possible, but sometimes if it is blocked up, the flanks will need to be used.

My main issue is to run hard to position, move the ball quickly (preferably more my foot than pissing around with the handball as TJ suggested) & putting pressure on Port all over the ground. Since te Hawks game out workrarte has been below par. Fire up guys, as I do not want to end our chances in a Showdown!

Opposition coaches are now crowding the corridor which used to be our domain last two years. Hence we now have to go wider and by that time they have the time to zone off us and we don't seem to have the ability or smarts to do to them what they do to us by using a long kick to get over their zoners in their CHB line.

use the corridor via foot, not hand

this is something i would very much like to see!!!

and for ****s sake, play mattner on a wing!!!!!

Let's play what happened from here:

Mattner is clearly favouring is right boot in the photo. Realising (after about 5 seconds thinking) he has no right foot, he decides to stop and get back on the left. As Mattner has stopped, the forwards that have lead up the ground are now out of position. With the forwards now covered Mattner puts down his head and tries to take on 3 opposition players only to succeed in getting caught holding the ball. The ball gets turned over and is kicked to Mattner's man in the back pocket who marks the ball uncontedted and kicks a goal.

Absolutely spot on description of Marty's failings as a so called AFL footballer. :thumbsu:

Adelaide uses the corridor when they are dictating the terms of the game (Brisbane, Kangaroos, Hawthorn). But when they are being dictated to, they are forced wide.
Bullseye.

There was an interesting stat in today's Australian that showed each club's "Scores per forward fifty entry" over the last five rounds. We were ranked 15th, only mustering a score from 45% of our forward fifty entries. Hawthorn were bottom with 42%. Interestingly Port headed the list at 59%. I'm sure that being forced wide is part of our problem.

I'm not sure that the long ball inside fifty will solve our problems either. We don't really have players who can take a pack mark or players who can crumb the ball at ground level. We seem to rely on hitting a leading forward for our goals which relies on precise build up, space for the forward to work in to, time and space for the midfielder to deliver the ball, high skill level etc. In the tough, hard games opportunities to set up goals in this way don't come along too often.

Perhaps Gill will become our 'get out of jail free card' up forward - someone we can launch the ball to when no other options are available. Just make sure someone is running past for the handball.
