Press conference about to start, will keep an ear out if there's any further updates re community sport. 4 cases today from one family in household but unsure where the contracted the virus aka unlinked which is a concern - hoping they have some better news updates for us shortly

Cases have been linked to current outbreaks so we should be ok.

4 cases announced today were linked to each other (same household). But they are still trying to determine where one of them first got the virus. That's the concern. Investigations are underway and it proves there's still virus out in the community. That being said they are based in the the northern suburbs so there is hope that they'll eventually be able to find source of connection to current clusters.
New exposure sites have been added but we just have to hope that this doesnt get out of hand. I'm remaining positive.
We as a state, and particularly as a community need some good luck our way so lets hope we get some.
Seems to me all other clusters (Port Melbourne, Whittlesea, Maidstone) are all very much under control now. So long this Reservoir family didnt spread it any where, we'll be fine. Lets hope!!!

Survey apparently looks at playing on the 10th July with the 2nd option to go back a week and a 2 week finals series 1v4 and 2v3 both winners into GF , so a team that scrapes into 4th can get promoted . Why not just play 2 byes , or would that upset ski tours or the old boys.

EFL & I believe (Bendigo FL) have amended their season so all games will be played and they have shortened their finals fixturing (1 v 4, 2 v 3).

I cant see VAFA following suite but interesting I reccon, I wonder if other leagues will now do the same thing

Take away the Preliminary Finals. And for those comps with final 5's the first week as well. Might make for some cracking finals. Imagine finishing 4th and winning the first-semi which sees you promoted?

without question this is the most crack head idea I have ever heard !!!! "ditch the prelim" MY GOD ... I could go on and on about the work money effort and sometimes lifetimes work that goes into getting a club up a grade and how removing that removes the extra chance a top two teak gets to achieve it.. but I won't I'll just put this comment down to the fact that whoever wrote it has zero comprehension of local football clubs.. God help me I'm going to need to sit down for a bit after reading this "idea"

P.S on the topic of finals can someone explain why the heck we give umpires medals in ever grand final.. From what I understand all umps compete for the top couple of grand finals and I hear that the A and B panels go on the honour boards in the Fluro oddball clubrooms.. so with the fact doesn't that mean that all those umps who finish below B grade have "lost" and failed in their season and are only providing a services to the other games rather than it being an achievement ...

That is what these other competitions have done. I use the example of the Eastern FL. What they have done is this: The Elimination Final and Qualifying Final in Premier have gone. So they have moved to a final four to keep the season going. Then because they want to ensure the grand final has it's own weekend before the AFL Grand Final, the Preliminary finals have gone. So the winners of the 2 semi-finals will play in the grand final. And on what my Vermont mate has shown me, every grade is operating the same way. So there is every chance a team finishing 4th in the home and away season, can get promoted if they happen to win their semi-final. Fair carrot.

As to the other point - not everyone gets the chance to umpire on the final weekend. I have 3 times in the reserve grade grand finals (and happily did so). Any grand final is an achievement/reward for the hard work put in.

Is there an expectation that games will actually be played this weekend?

I saw there was 2 cases announces this morning from this South Melbourne complex.. I dare say this could get out of hand once more, it's becoming increasingly difficult to stay positive during this lockdown.

I really hope for the best

The joint is in lockdown , looks like a commission complex near the old Ch 7

I have (what might be) a silly question .........have the VAFA HQ 100% confirmed ALL grade playing this weekend?

I read along the AFL Vic guidelines, etc ......but had not seen anything official from the league as yet? Or did I just miss it?

Chump.

Only the Premiers are promoted in the EFL. Relegation is actually the bigger issue this season as there’s two clubs being relegated from Premier and D1 to bring Premier back to 10 clubs after Berwick entered. So a longer H&A season is probably more important.

No, because the government haven't actually said senior sport can resume this weekend, hopefully that announcement is coming tomorrow.
