VAFA General Discussion

FWIW my understanding is that they had a fair few players in isolation caught up in a tier 1 sight. Old Paradians same thing.
Are the Vafa the only metro league not doing make up games?

That makes sense as La Trobe University's library was listed as a tier 1 exposure site, I know Alex Mirkov, the old Ivanhoe ruckman who got picked up by Carlton was in isolation for 14 days over this.

Sums up what is happening to local footy in Victoria. The AFL has ignored it and poured hundreds of millions of dollars into the black holes of GWS & GCS.
Victoria needs some serious attention and the AFL needs to get off their bums very quickly.
They pour millions of dollars into St Kilda , more than the other 2 recently

Was watching the live stream coverage Saturday (knee surgery recovery still not allowing mobility plus covid restrictions). It's actually not too bad. So much so that a certain journo's son from a C Grade club had a decent mention (and then a sly dig at the Dad the following day!)
Anderson ?

Any truth to a rumour VAFA is considering playing 2 missed games due to lockdown at the end of the season and pushing back finals?
They've been firm in their stance of not doing that at all so I'd be surprised.

No. The fact is we should be playing promotion and relegation grades in the bye weekends . Terrible decision

Clubs were surveyed couple of weeks ago. VAFA sticking with stated intentions from pre season.
Only "terrible decision" in your opinion.

Haven't spoken to anyone that disagrees with my view. Would be good to see the results of the survey.
What have you got against it

I also would like to see the survey results and VAFA should be transparent here. You would think if the overwhelming majority wanted to play on bye weekends then it would be happening.

Some i've spoken to like coaches etc, were not told and the club Sec ticked no and that happened at an A club

I would prefer the VAFA not compromise the finals set up for the sake of making up the two games. In a two-team-promotion league integrity of finals is paramount, and, in my opinion, a 16 game season, while not 100% equitable, is still sufficient to determine the top 4 sides.

In saying that, there is a way of achieving 18 games plus full finals - Prem A,B & C play both weekends of their July byes, and D1-4 play on the weekend of their July bye, and then push finals back by 1 week - this will mean all Grand Finals would take place on the same weekend. Wonder if this was put to clubs? I'd also like to know what the clubs were provided and responded with.

One thought I did have was the (seemingly) extraordinary amount of injuries clubs are facing as a potential reason not to use the bye weekends for make up games. Part of the reason for the high injury toll is based on there being no footy last year straight back into a full season this year causing players' bodies breaking down. Maybe more clubs would prefer a week(s) off to help their players get through the season.

Good call , play one bye and drop the season back a week. The only reason not to would be to accomodate the upper class that are going to Falls and Buller .

The potential scenario that a club which sits 9th after 16 games played and gets relegated, but didn’t get to play the teams which finished 8th and 10th is a pretty bitter pill to swallow don’t you think?

A very bitter pill to swallow, indeed, absolutely not denying it. I'd argue, though, that said team had 16 opportunities to improve their ladder position throughout the season and failed to do so. The same could be said for a team that misses finals by %, but played the bottom side on a muddy, heavy ground in the middle of July which caused the game to be low scoring, thus less chance to boost their %. Maybe a tenuous analogy but footy fixtures are littered with variables, of which none are fair.

Statistically speaking, 16 games is enough of a sample size to determine the best 4 sides, and the worst 2 sides. My point is, if given a choice between extending the season and reducing the finals, or playing 16 games plus a regular finals series, my preference is the latter.

Maybe the VAFA could really think outside the box - first week of finals also play 8th vs 9th in relegation games!

Same here. The games we missed out on were against the minnows where we were practically guaranteed 100-150 point margins. Bit of a percentage booster.

The administration is like an old turnstile. One way only.(theirs)
To change anything at this stage is impossible.
Switch off the snow guns?
