VAFA General Discussion

Westbourne didn't like its kids playing in the Westbourne juniors, certainly when my kids were going through we only had 3-4 students in the entire group. The juniors were formed from Sayers Rd Auskick mainly because parents didn't like the zoo that was Hoppers Crossing Auskick with a few hundred kids, and equally didn't want their kids exposed to Hoppers "win at all costs" mentality even at the most junior level. From what I remember Willy Juniors had more Westbourne students because a lot of them lived there.

The core groups at Westbourne Juniors mainly went to Thomas Carr and Hoppers Crossing Secondary.

I believe that's still the case at the Suns Juniors, though I could be wrong there as I'm not involved in the club any more. And the Suns juniors will not be looking to pull on a Westbourne jumper after U16s-U18s.
Friends who live in Newport have their boys playing for Newport Power Juniors, their nearest club which has a good family orientated environment with good and capable people in charge.

As many Westbourne students live in Williamstown, Newport, Altona North and Spotswood, Westbourne intends to have U19s this coming season, training and playing at the Newport Football Ground (Bryan Martyn Oval).

Newport terminates at U16, their players dispersing to Spotswood, Yarraville, Altona, all WRFL clubs and Willi CYs.

I understand that most of last year's Newport U16s, 3rd in the WRFL U16 competition behind grand finalists Williamstown and Yarraville will train and play at Newport in the Westbourne guernsey.

Surely Old Mentone would wait till training re starts to see how many they have. Option to play in the Clubbies.
To have no presence at all could be the end of the Club forever.
If they don't make it call it a bye and 16 games. We did it last in B.

wow, an amazing transformation if true
Not sure that there’s been any transformation: I understand that the Newport Power Juniors have disassociated themselves from the senior teams due to a disagreement about the seniors’ on-field player behaviour.

A new senior Newport Football Club now plays in the WRFL in Altona North, has no juniors and targets specific footballers from local clubs.

Newport Power Juniors and Newport Football Club have no affiliation whatsoever.

NO

Just out of interest, what the process that new clubs or returning clubs who are coming back from a recess have to go through if they want to join the VAFA or return after a few years absence from VAFA football?

They are done for 2023.

I’m not sure why you would wait for training to commence to see how many players you are going to have rock up - they would know exactly how many with all the background work and phone calls being made. Getting a coach would be a good start - which they don’t have.

I’ve heard they will attempt to have the club remain relevant in 2023 with a women’s side only, and work during the year to add more sides come 2024.

Would imagine that an offical call would be made this week or the following.

VAFA scrambling no doubt.

They have to present a compelling case, structured business plan etc to get a look in. Then they start in D4 if they’re lucky.

Heard a whisper today from a club member that Mentone may have decided to go into recess for 2023. I was under the impression that they would run a ladies team only. Can anyone verify or is it more useless rumourmongering.

You have no idea who I am, and again, another negative post! Keep guessing Mr Negative, do you have a sad life?

BTW Mr Einstein, the last time I looked the EPL pays players a fortune, unless I’m missing something we have an amateur competition, shouldn’t you be calling the EDFL etc like the EPL?

Change to alcohol rule imminent along with serious discussion of limiting team numbers in certain grades /competitions. Wow wee - here we go!!

Chump 🤍🖤🏆
I doubt they’ll limit teams Mr Chump, the VAFA make a heap from their subs and they need the big clubs to support the minnows in the lower grades, we need those small clubs.
