VAFA General Discussion

Just read that Xavs will be reducing their Under 19 teams to 2, but will be increasing their 3tds teams to 5.

Good help us all.

This will be interesting, say they all dominate in the opening rounds, With the regrading that occurs they might find themselves all playing in the same grade.

Nah the VAFA would never do that would they......

Can't have the boys from Toorak Park not inflating their club premiership stats every year.

So 7 senior teams? 😮😮😮😮
Let’s say for arguments sake 25 players in each team…..that means they would have around 175 senior players on the books. That’s insane! Be harder to get a kick at training than on match day!
Might be time to organise a mass boycott in order to force the VAFA to cap the amount of teams, or god forbid, put them in the same flipping division.

No way any divisional teams (outside of a jacked up Hawthorn Spartans of yesteryear) will be able to compete.

Boys schools shouldn't have girls teams , they should start their own clubs

VAFA rules are still that they CAN have one or more teams from the same club in the same thirds Division. Clubs just have to reinforce at the next members meeting or no point talking about it. Put up or shut up.

Yeah, did hear that. Current VAFA administration have made it pretty clear they don't want them in the same division, so I don't hold much hope for this occurring, particularly considering Xavier's stronghold of support during these meetings. APS sides generally have more than one Thirds' side, and you'd think they'd all prefer to have their teams in separate comps as a principal.

But five teams is just inappropriate.

The MCC started a team , why not a bit of independence . It seems silly that girls play in an old boys club

The all boys schools have sister schools like Xavier/MLC and SKOB/St Catherines, quite a few would attend them, Pretty much everyone have gotten rid of the name old boys really

I think melbourne Uni womens are seperate as well

But the inclusion of women to a local club should make them stronger. Not to mention the government looks favourlably to clubroom development and grants if they participate

I know a couple of clubs that are not stronger due to the Women wanting too much , etc training on Thursdays same time as seniors . Then there is the relationship issues and it happens

Its bloody tough if you only have one ground. Double as tough if you have u19s. Thursday nights are a nightmare.

We deal with this as well... One ground, 80+ people to accommodate on a Thursday night.

Add to that trying to spread limited resources across sometimes 3 venues on a Saturday.

We get little to no benefit having a women's program. It's filled mainly with Junior Mums and players girlfriends who will only play for a season or 2 for a bit of fun and all the investment will be for nothing.

What annoys me is that you are not allowed to say anything against it . I know at a Presidents meeting last year a few of them off the record said they wished they didn't have them.

I know an ammo club where womens president wanted full control over mens teams and when it all got too hard, she cut and run and left club in disarray. Even had mens coach sacked.

And the MCC womens teams wanted (from the outset) everything the same as Premier A clubs, very very demanding and remember the "trumped" up charge/allegation against a Bulleen Temp female player?

Ive heard there is/was a massive divide at Albert Park also!

Toxic culture at some womens clubs

There's a fair bit of bitter whining going on here. Conversely I know several clubs where the women's side has been a breath of fresh air, changed dynamics and culture and contributed on and off the field. Yes it has taken time money and plenty of effort but has been more than worth it. Maybe instead of criticising women's football, the processes and integration at your clubs should be under question

Everybody is allowed their view on it , watched a game at UHS last year to HT 1 point each , it was so hard to watch and it's not whining it's an opinion. Having said that i will be supporting a girls team this year

Kyneton are having a horrendous time with a rogue element at the moment.

Reading through the Riddell board the splinter element have gone as far as sabotaging the club (trying to get sponsors to withdraw, etc) to try and get what they demand.

I do know clubs like Yarra Valley/Cobras who have an excelent agreement with womens home club and mens home club!!
Brunswick also seem to have excellent set up from what I can understand.
I am always of the belief (and from medical research) that females should not play aussie rules with knee issues and physical build not for aussie rules. Is entirely my own opinion.

I’m led to believe there was a power struggle between the women at Glen Eira and the men over who has use of the ground on Main training nights , the women there are a rabble who just think of themselves. Bedders I believe Ormond have a women’s team again, would hope it goes better than the last lot , how are they tracking?

This is absolutely the experience at my club. Not to be super dramatic, but women's footy has played a huge role in our club becoming far more secure and safe from expansion of much bigger and financially set surrounding clubs. It has been a hugely beneficial evolution - we have seven teams, and sure the ground availability is a challenge, but the vibe around the club is so much more inviting than it was when I first arrived. Our men and women's teams have functions together, sometimes train together, look after each other, and share in each other's success. You've got to lean into it. Women's footy has been massive for footy's standing in the community. Big tick from me.
