I saw a memo from the VAFA suggesting that there may be an u17s comp next season... Would your club be interested?

The MSJFL have quite a big u/17 comp with two diversions. Many MSJFL clubs are VAFA clubs as well.
Old Boys clubs wont care, seems to be a ploy to make district clubs stronger.would have to play these games on a sunday due to school commitments.
be a huge thing for some lower division clubs to build into their 19's
I don't think it would work. I think the fact is a lot of the Under 17s sometimes play in the Under 19s and therefore it would be stripping the Under 19s (and also the seniors) bare of players, especially if injuries start to hit during the year and the Under 19s need players to step up and fill the gaps. And where would a senior or Under 19s team turn to if Under 19s players are injured or unavaliable for long periods of time and therefore need Under 17s to help out on either a Saturday or Sunday afternoon? Has the VAFA thought this through without realising the impact it would have on the MSJFL and other junior leagues around Melbourne?

No, like I said before, it will not work. The VAFA would have to consider VERY carefully the implications of such a move. It would mean possibly the end of the MSJFL as we know it. After all, the MSJFL is possibly the best junior comp outside the TAC Cup at the moment. And any move by the VAFA to start an Under 17s comp would have get prior approval from AFL Victoria.

C'mon Jase - have YOU thought this one through.......consider the potential for U17 Section of Origin matches!!!!
Maybe a North -v- South or an East -v- West as a curtainraiser at 6 am to the U19s (9.30am), U21s (12pm), U23s (2.30pm) and senior matches (5pm - night game, just like the AFL) on a Super Saturday at Telstra Dome in front of 1500 people??
I reckon Barnesy, Frosty and Bruno could be the selectors and you get to run water.
What are your thoughts Jase???
Hang on, I might start a poll first to see what others think......
On the contrary, it would enable the school clubs to get more of the private school kids playing at district clubs already established U17 sides.
Most U17 teams playing in the YJFL can change up to half their team each week depending on TAC and/or school commitments.
An VAFA based U17 comp would hurt district clubs immensely as the smooth transition from 17s to 19s (for my club anyway) would be hindered if the 3 or 4 private schools our kids attend are able to "coerce" them to play for the school U17 side. They would then be lost from their junior club.
Also someone with more knowledge of Old Boy Clubs might be able to say whether this new compition would interfere with the schools own competition and cause any friction.
Did anyone on this forum attend the meeting the VAFA held on Monday night regarding this proposal ?
