big shock. not quite of the right age or music preference to get into soundgarden at the time, but latched onto them later, partly through road rash

one of my favourites

pretty noose. there was a time i really flogged louder than love as well.

Shadow face
Blowing smoke and talking wind
Lost my grip
Fell too far to start again
A sudden snake
Found my shape and tells the world
Remember this
Remember everything is just black
Or burning sun

And I hope it's a sweet ride
Sleep tight for me
Sleep tight for me I'm gone

Warm and sweet
Swinging from a windows ledge
Tight and deep
One last sin before I'm dead
A sucking holy wind
Will take me from this bed tonight
And bloody wits
Another hits me and I have to say goodbye

And I hope it's a sweet ride
Here for me tonight
'Cause I feel I'm going
Feel I'm slowing down

Absolutely shattered. My all time favourite singer.

Glad I had the opportunity to see them at the Palace in St. Kilda all those years ago.

Seems like a morbidly appropriate tune :'(

The best Soundgarden songs?
01 Pretty Noose
02 Limo Wreck
03 Spoonman
04 The Day I Tried To Live
05 Blow Up The Outside World
06 Black Hole Sun
07 Nothing To Say
08 Outshined
09 Burden In My Hand
10 Fell On Black Days

Unbelievably the last song he ever performed was a cover of Led Zeppelin's "In MY Time of Dying"
R.I.P.
Needs more Bond! Such an under rated song.

Room a Thousand Years Wide and Hands All Over would be in my top 10.

Was the best voice in rock in his prime (and even out of it). And Soundgarden were a pivotal band for me growing up. I won't forget the comfort I found in Black Hole Sun and the Superunknown album following my own father's funeral.

RIP Chris. \m/

One of my favourites gigs was Chris Cornell at The Forum in 2007 where him and his band took the crowd through Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog and Audioslave songs. Between full band sets he performed a handful of acoustic tracks, including 'Blow Up the Outside World'. I had long been a fan but it was one of those gigs where you walk away with a whole new level of admiration and love.

Seeing him again a few years later at The Palais in solo mode was also something special.

Crank up the tunes and blow your car windows out.

The 90s was the last truly great periods of music,I would go back in a heartbeat and Soundgarden were a part of that scene,Chris Cornell was one of the most gifted singers on the planet.

My fav gig of theirs was The Palace ,St. Kilda.

Inbetween the Badmotorfinger and Superunknown albums.

It was pure,loud,raw energy.

When he sang Beyond The Wheel,I had goosebumps.

R.I.P. Chris Cornell.

The pig trotters in the music industry will be still making money from your albums, long after you've gone.

My fav Soundgarden song.

Not sure if I can listen to Pretty Noose for awhile now.

Due to my age I got into Audioslave first and thought that was great and then got into Soundgarden and loved it.

R.I.P Chris.
I skipped Like Suicide on my drive this morning. Going to feel raw for a while.

I think the 90s was the last decade of memorable music, a lot of modern day music does't seem to have that classic staying power or the classiness of songs from that decade...

I could write a thesis on it..

****ing hell, the more time that elapses the sadder it gets. He was truly one of the greats.

Each of the 'big 3' albums SG released in the 90s (apologies to Ultramega OK, which was fantastic too) was pioneering in its own way and they were all so damn distinctive. He was never content to rest on his laurels, always breaking new ground. They detested being labelled as grunge and it shows, especially in Down on the Upside. He and Shepherd played a bloody mandolin on Ty Cobb and it still rocked.

Obviously everything there is to say about his voice has been said, but his lyrics were just ****ing beautiful, he had a way with words most of us could only dream of and although it's a cliche, he's one of the few artists you could say absolutely sang from his soul.

A seriously sad loss.
