Van Berlo Leaving?

Who'd have thought Meesen wanted to go home?

I think most people on this board got the feeling that Messen wanted to return home about half way through last year and then when he only signed on for one year that was a pretty big clue....

Thanks to those that have supported the idea of a debate in this forum.

As opposed to personal attacks.

Anyways jenny61_99 your very correct.

PC your right its just an idea, all i am saying the potential is to get Gibbs home.

He symbolizes our first loss of a potential father-son rule that hurt our club at the time.

I wonder if Van Berlo and Gibbs were asked privately what state they wished they could play in would be interesting.

How about this? The worse scenario could be can you imagine if Gibbs does want to come home and the Power grab him.

Anyways I am glad I have stirred up some potential interest in this possible trade scenario.

As much as I would like Gibbs, losing VB for him is not the way to go.

If Carlton need another 1st rounder for Judd, then we may be able to wangle something using our #10 pick & player/other picks.

Yeah could you please clarify what Port got out of the Stevens deal? thanks

Douglas V Gibbs

Hmmmm Gibbs thanks.

Don't think you understand preseason draft. If VB goes in the draft then he will be no. 1 this means freo and WC would have to finish last. As I said don't think this is going to happen in next 5 years. Stevens had the advantage of being a victorian, one of those clubs always finishes last. As for gibbs v douglas, when playing together for glenelg, douglas out performed gibbs vast majority of weeks. Gibbs has done little this year to impress me playing in a very average carlton side.

Yeah I know... I was just saying that Judd doesn't make the "going home issue" bigger.

South Australia is at a significant disadvantage compared to all other states in terms of attracting good players to come and play or to come home.

Our lack of financial opportunities off-field is hindering our ability to attract good players to come home.

Apart from Carey (who really needed to leave Victoria) since 2000 there hasnt been any descent player wanting to play for either one of our clubs.

The AFL must provide for us salary cap relief.

Disagree.

Only the ellite in Vic get the media jobs, usually only one per club. Here we have 3-4 per club (or more) getting roles.

We have a lower cost of living than most other states. Sydney have more money in their cap for higher costs in Sydney. So if we were dinkum, should we have less in the salary cap?

Thompson is half decent.

I am guessing there have been quite a few players that would want to come back - but it is not a one way street. The clubs have to come to an arangement. The advantage the Vic clubs have is that the pre-season draft is greatly in their favour. If a Vic players wants to leave and will not agree to a trade, there is a huge chance he will be picked up by a Vic club. We are fortunately never in a good position in the PSD.
