Doesn't play vs the Hawks,...through all this Varcoe does!

A women rang Balme on SEN yesterday for an apology, Balme had spoken to her daughter rudely after she asked why Chappy?...Among other things he said, "so you're in that camp hey"!
Balme must have remembered and did apologised, now, what do you make of Balme?
Big body big head and not that smart.
Give it a spell mate. How is it Balmes fault that Chappy didn't play against Hawthorn? I look forward to yet another sane, well considered, balanced opinion on that one.
As for the ladies daughter, good on him for apologising if she took offence to him. If supporters came up to me at a club event and had a go and questioned a decision which would've been the hardest I would ever had to make on the same day, I would be quite emotional about it as well and probably tell them to **** off.

Read Needy 1 and then take your prozac.

Balme stated on SEN Chappy was lucky to get the vest after the prior week getting 26disposals and 2 goals in his first game back, and that was for his 250th appearance, what a damn insult that was!
After continually being ignored for weeks at VFL level this was what Balme said after a fantastic first game back.
Then the subs vest thing, Vardy goes off Chappy 11 disposals in 15 mins, saves the game against Brisbane 3 times a goal a smother and a touched point.

I bet that you're the same kind of person who sits on the couch watching the 6 o'clock news, and with the first sight of a politician proclaims that "all those pollies are stoopid and don't have a clue what they're doing and they get paid too much". Your disproportionately critical views of the club, its administrators and the player in question here makes me think that you're probably one of the biggest armchair experts on earth. In all likelihood, you blabber on about all kinds of issues which you have little to no knowledge about. You need to get a grip man, and you can start by letting go of your appendage!

I know it's faint praise at this time of the morning, but that's the best post so far today. :D

Carry on SC.......It's obvious to some they didn't come up with this decision last week, maybe not you, but there are some or is that to much of a conspiracy theory for you to process?

He said the things he said, he didn't deny it!....believe it or not, your choice I suppose!

PS/ Glad you're happy Neddy1.

i meant for other reasons, ie many view him as a bust and soft.

A bust?

By my count, there were only four players taken after him in the draft who have conclusively been better AFL players, to this stage (Richard Douglas, Andrew Swallow, Joel Patfull, Mathew Stokes). And only Douglas was taken anywhere near him (the pick after), which is hardly a 'Tambling over Franklin'/'Fiora over Pavlich' decision You might argue there's five, with Bernie Vince, but personally I don't think he's been any better than Varcoe, even if you allow for his B&F. He was also drafted behind several players who have clearly had less-distinguished AFL careers: Ellis, Dowler, Oakley-Nicholls, Drum, Higgins and I'd even argue Ryder and Clark as well.

Travis Varcoe is a lot of things, but he's not a bust. And I'd argue that when you're the 15th pick in the draft and will finish your career with 150 games and two premierships, probably as a minimum, you'd have to have a few HOFers drafted right after you to be a bust.

Varcoe just needs a good preseason and a bit of confidence.

He is very much like Hawkins in that it takes him a long time to get going but once he does he can do things other players cant.

After his great 2011 GF he missed basically the whole of 2012 and then played 3 games at the start of this year before missing half the season and getting rushed back in to hopefully be good enough for finals. It didn't work and now people want to throw him out!

I suspect that putting Trav up is a bit of a message to pull his finger out a bit. Don't think he'll be traded.

I think Varcoe gets a pass for everything else, but it's tough to defend his second half of 2013. He had nine games (including one in the VFL) to get his groove back. That's not being rushed back. Time was well and truly on his side. Unless there's some serious stuff going on behind the scenes that we don't know about (in which case, again: why was he playing?), there's no point trying to justify or defend Varcoe's 2013 season. It was a nightmare. He just needs to fix it.

Why do people continue to do just that?.....You'd have thought they would've learnt something by now!

but he missed the whole of 2012 and only played 3 games early in the year, so he was already coming off a low base when injured again

he should have played 3-5 VFL games before coming back

I'm the biggest Chappy lover, and I admit that Balmey can be an abrupt individual who probably rubs some people up the wrong way. It's yet to be determined whether or not cutting Chappy loose was a mistake. I certainly found it a hard decision to swallow given his performance in the semi final. But there's one thing I am certain about though; Neil Balme is an excellent administrator who has the runs on the board to prove just that. He, along with the collective brains trust at Geelong know a hell of a lot more than you or I, and chances are they're a lot smarter than at least one of us, but probably both of us in reality.

As for Varcoe, I am now of the opinion that we trade him if the right deal can be brokered. I was a huge fan throughout '10 & '11, lets face it - who really wasn't besides you? I had faith that he'd come good towards the end of this year after an admittedly torrid run with injuries. But besides not being able to recapture that form towards the end of the year, he didn't just become a passenger, he was also a dangerous liability. Now, I can forgive poor form, but his last half of 2013 was an unmitigated disaster! It's not that I have run out of patience with Trav, even though my patience was heavily tested watching him play this year, it's just that I have now lost faith in his ability to ever fulfil his potential for whatever reason that may be.

What do you guys think of a swap for Fasolo or Blair? Im just curious.
Blair at his best is extremely good. But then again so is Varcoe.

Two years ago I would have taken Fasolo for Trav in a heartbeat, but both have had really bad injury-interrupted years so they're about on the same level at the moment in my eyes.

VARCOE is a hard one ,they way i see it is if Varcoe ,Taylor Hunt and Hawkins had not of been injured i have no doubt we would of won the flag

And he could have. Easily. It was a shoulder injury this time, so he would have been running for most of his rehab. He came back for the Melbourne game, which I guess they figured was pretty much the same thing as playing in the VFL anyway. The next three games didn't really mean too much in the grand scheme of things (as the team showed by managing to lose two of them and winning the other by 100 points).

By that stage, he should have found his touch, or gone back to the VFL. But he just kept playing a mediocre game here, a poor game there (his goals tally for the season actually flatters him a little bit; I remember most of them being from the goal square and he wasn't even getting close from 40m+ set shots by the end), but it was like they'd gone past the point of no return with him. Which was truly baffling, as players like T.Hunt, Smedts, Murdoch, Stringer and Thurlow were consistently performing in the twos and all could have played as a pacy wingman/flanker in the senior side, had Varcoe been dropped (or GHS could have come in, with someone like Duncan playing more of an outside role). It wasn't like there were no other options; there were about half a dozen options, besides persisting with Varcoe, when it clearly wasn't working.

Balme, I can understand him and CS trying to create a younger list, I don't know why, but it seemed obvious to me they were angling to cut Chapman, his form was bloody good and we needed more scoring potential yet they ignored him// kept playing Varcoe.
Balme on many occassions now has been defensively hostile whenever the Chapman issue comes up, it's obvious by his actual comments he was a prime instigator in the decision to cut Chapman, they didn't want him to come back. That's my take from all I've heard and seen to date.
I think they went a year to early with Chappy.

If you've ever bothered to read my posts you should know I've been quick to praise Varcoe whenever I've seen a ray of light.
I'm not going to excuse some of the things we know detract from his value as a team member, his lack of intensity was one reason in particular why you never saw that potential fullfilled

What evidence do you have that the GFC listens to you (and it better be good, because the mere claim scared the f**k out of me).
What outside savvy has Varcoe ever had, except the savvy to run outside the play?
How was Balme responsible for Chapman getting pinched?

So, no answers to any of my 3 questions.

In 2011 you would have taken Fasalo for Trav? Far out.

2 years ago? Before his injuries and after his influence in the GF? And when Fasolo was the sub for them. Would've been a horrible trade at the time without the luxury of knowing what we do today.

I've heard Balme on radio the last two weeks.
He's said nothing wrong at all. He just hates discussing list decisions publicly. Wouldn't you?

And that's all he said to the woman last week "You can ask any question about Chappy you like but I'm not answering it"

How that makes him a big head I've got no idea.
Sounds exactly like the kind of person we need to be honest. i.e. No club leaks.

2 years ago was a lazy guess. Maybe mid-2012 I would have taken Fas in a heartbeat. He was as good as Menzel when he was up and about.

So you must've heard he said "oh then you're in that camp then", what I'm saying is, that Balme was central in the demise of Chappy at Geelong.
If he plays FP for Richmond or the like, it'll come back to bite us mark my words. They moved a year to early imo.

I think someone has a little crush on "Fas"!
