Bye. Have a rest chief

absolute passenger

i'd have him as a sub but dropping him would also be good

Seemed to be in 2nd gear for most of the night there were situations that just screamed for him to hit the afterburners and take the game on but he didn't seemed to want to.
A week or two in the magoo's might be just the thing to give him a wake up call

Straight swap for Christensen...done and dusted

wow ... for a team that had a pretty good night we've now collectively dropped varcoe, mackie, hawkins and hunt, and we'll probably lose ling as well

5 changes after beating the premiers?

Watching him reminds me so much of Tambling at Richmond. You know how fast they are but they never want to use the pace they have. So strange!

He doesn't look interested at all!

Good win tonight boys, you made it hard for yourselves though :D

Just read the post above me, HAWKINS is HORRIBLE! He is a man mountin but never uses his body, drive me crazy!

have to agree I have been noticing it over the last 3 games. Pulling out of contests, not going for the ball when he should, trying to pick up the easy run past handball. He needs to be dropped.

Its like one person has posted under 4 accounts in this thread.

What's going on with him this season? After Ablett leaving and Varcoe's improvement last year I thought he could really get on the ball and have a break out season.

There were times in the first 3 quarters tonight we he looked to be running up and down in the one place.

For the Cats to win the whole thing this year they really need his pace, his sticky fingers and his goal kicking.

Come on Trav.

He did use his body once when he cleaned up Toovey which caused the umps to stop the play when we were streaming forward.

Took a mark on the wing too.

That's all I think.

Well,, i am driven to write my first ever post here, after reading all your comments over the past years. Tonight Varcoe showed yet again he never goes in and wants to get the hard ball, always looking for the easy pass from a mate. He has talent no doubt, but until he is prepared to do the hard work, and fight for the ball, and get involved he is nothing but a passenger, much like his other talented mate Hawkins. Very frustrating to watch two guys who could offer so much to the team but seldom try to get involved.

Yep. He's gone backwards. It's becoming increasingly clear that the bigger the stage and the harder the contest, the more certain it is he won't be sighted. He got thrashed by Leon Davis. I don't think there could be a bigger insult.

The signs have been there too. He's been poor in all the tough physical games we've had (St.Kilda, Sydney, tonight), and been flashy at best in the other games. Really disturbing habit now of running around guys with the ball laying half-assed tackles (and falling over) instead of actually charging at them.

Should be dropped, but almost certainly won't. I'll take Christensen instead.

This. 7-0 and apparently we need to swap out 20% of the side? I'd rather them in the team and working on their game.

LOL....exactly! To be expected I guess....better add Pods...and J Hunt...nearly lost us the game with that kick out...

Actually...bring on the VFL side....:thumbsu::D

The Hawkins, Mackie, Varcoe, etc haters can't see past their nose...or their bias. Simply see what feeds them.....

You've got to accept that he's an outside player and will always be. Tonight was a shocker but he has the chance to redeem himself next week as his pace will be needed against the Blues. Perhaps tag Yarran even.

As well as Varcoe playing lazy I thought Christensen was really good once he came on a couple of really nice efforts seem to create time when ever he got the ball

Nonsense. Totally disagree. It's recognising players that have weaknesses that should be either eradicated, or getting replaced by stronger players who don't have them. If it improves the side there's nothing wrong with that.

Varcoe has been skiing away from contests all season. A real disappointment as he looked to finally add some physicality last year. Don't care whether you value outside players or whatever term receivers are now called, I have little time for players unwilling to put their head over the ball when it's their turn. Christensen did more hard work in 5 minutes than Varcoe did all night.

Partiridge, you seriously want to see Varcoe go out of this side as you suggest from that previous comment? He's one of our most gifted and exciting young players and a player that has so much upside playing in a great team where every single player is getting exposed and analyzed like non of the other 12-14 teams. Varcoe is only gonna get better and he nearly pulled off that soccer macth with Davis but the ball went to Stokes who couldn't quite get it back to him.

No. Please no. He hasn't got a clue how to tag. Recipe for disaster.

So you didnt notice Scott moved Varcoe onto Didak in the second half ( in defence ) and did a good job. Funny how opposition supporters come onto our board and rave about Varcoe yet the same old posters here do the exact opposite. Still, you're entitled to your opinion.

I suspect you will have plenty of opportunities to sink the boot because Varcoe will play most games this year.

Varcoe wasn't as bad as you make him out IMO, nor was Hawkins as bad as being portrayed here...I thought Tom's first quarter was good, and he did a bit late....I just wish he would put together 100 minutes.

:pI think it will be the opposite way around as they will be trying everything to stop us going into this game

Well, if we're going to tag him, as I think we should, it's either him or Wojo who have the pace to do it and I'm not that confident that Wojo will perform the defensive acts needed.

If Varcoe concentrates, he has the tackling technique and pace to pressure Yarran.
