I thought I'd start this thread for everyone to discuss the VB series... the games, performances, selections, etc etc.
I think it should be a very interesting and close series, as all 3 teams featured in the semi-finals of the last World Cup.
New Zealand have a very good one-day team with Chris Cairns the key all-rounder in their side. I expect them to push very hard for a spot in the finals and if the likes of Fleming, Astle, McMillan and Sinclair can score some runs, the left arm spinner Daniel Vettori is going to be a real danger with his bowling. New Zealand will also rely on the likes of Chris Harris to try to restrict the scoring by bowling his very slow medium pace in the middle overs.
South Africa are also going to be right up there with Jacques Kallis their key player. Gary Kirsten and Herschelle Gibbs at the start will be a handfull and their bowling with Shaun Pollock leading the way will see them also very competitive. South Africa also has Jonty Rhodes back for the one-dayers, one of the best fielders in the world.
The Aussies as we all know have a strong team and are the current world champions. When you can afford to have a rotation policy for these matches, it just goes to show the strength we have in our cricket and I cant see us losing this series. Matthew Hayden is one to watch and lets hope he can carry his outstanding form from the test series into the one-dayers as he has the ability to really carve the bowling apart. Gilchrist and Bevan are also outstanding batsman for us and our bowling with McGrath and Lee to lead the pace attck, Shane Warne with his leg-spin and Ian Harvey with his medium pace and slower balls will be hard to get away. We also have outstanding fieldsmen in Ricky Ponting, Andrew Symonds and Mark Waugh who will pounce on any chances and also save lots of runs in the field.
My prediction is for an Australia vs New Zealand finals series with the Aussies winning 2-0.
