vBulletin 3.6 Upgrade?

The new version of vBulletin has an infraction system in which the mods here could use to wave their authority around more effectively and efficiently, and other cool features like multi quote.

Does the BigNetwork have any plans to upgrade to this latest version?

Not that I know of. With this complicated setup, major upgrades are taken very slowly.

Sure there was a bumper of registrated members this month due to the amount of media attention the site has got.

Actually I am pretty happy about the new infraction system. A mod just has to click a button, choose from a list of predefined infractions and BAM you get points towards a banning. HOWEVER, points can be set to expire so if you only cut loose once a year you are unlikely to get kicked.

But we can still ban anyone on the spot.

From memory, it was about 3 or 4 years ago we started getting 100 online each afternoon. Now we get over 800.

Dunno what the user sees, I will have to check it out more thoroughly.

One thing is that it won't do temporary bans - you accumulate points and you are permanently moved to a different user group. I like the idea that nobody gets suspended but live in a permanent state of fear of the automated ban-bot.

Intrigued to know how the points system will work. I think if you gain a certain number of points, a certain amount of time of suspension should occur.

So when it gets to 100, you're banned for good or just a temporary suspension?

When you recieve an infraction on 3.6, you receive a PM or email with all the details and there is a record of all your infractions in your profile viewable to you only.

When an infraction is given, the mod can choose whether to give penalty points or just give a verbal warning, and include an extra message to you.

The admin sets the maximum number of points and chooses what the punishment is when you reach that amount.

I have noticed on other forums that some people can change the words of Temporary suspension to taking a break or some other comment. Is that possible for you guys to go in that direction?

well that seems crazy. I think just about everyone has had a little holiday at some stage, and either come back "rehabilitated", or not... I guess the warnings system would function similarly

My error - I misunderstood how the system works.

As you muck up and get hit with infraction points they mount up until a pre-set level is reached.

Individual infractions expire a pre-set time after they are given. Once enough expire to drop you below a certain level you regain whatever privileges you lost.

For instance at 5 points you could lose the ability to start new threads but retain the ability to post. At 10 points you could lose all privileges bar viewing threads.

Here's the fun part: you can set an infraction to never expire. Get enough non-expiring points and your account is GAWN as your infraction points total will never drop low enough to allow you to regain your privileges.
