This is a bit of a vent but I find it really annoying when Bluely makes excuses like "They haven't hit a 80 games yet so we can't expect to much from them" (or something to that effect.) Like Matt Shaw or some of our "fringe" player are going to magically become amazing contributors after 80ish games and some preseasons. Will Langford is a first year player and was almost best on ground for the Hawks yesterday. Jager was a first year player and came up 3rd in our best and fairest, KK has looked at home in his first season.

Mindlessly pumping games into players thinking they'll automatically get better doesn't necessarily work. Imo the club should always field the best available team and make less excuses for our on field performances.

End rant. :p
Matt Shaw isn't in our best 22 and won't be in our best 25 next season. The fringe players are also only there until we draft better, use free agency to replace them.
We do however need to get games into the boys that are our future. We had 2 boys with 80+ games when we played Essendon and it showed.

I disagree. Guess we will have to wait and see.

Just calling it now, Weller (if we get him) will over take him on the depth chart. Just as good a kick (according to the recruiters) and is a much better inside player.

Unless something drastic happens in the off season I can't see Shawy being a regular part of our best 22. Time will tell though. :)

I haven't seen much to suggest Weller is a good inside player. Okay but needs work.

Shawry has improved every year and despite having some down games he still holds the record for most games played of any of our 92' born. Watch him take another step next year.

i don't get all the hate for shaw. he plays his role as a speedy outside midfielder well, and works hard off the ball.
I love what he's done for us in the first 4 years and definitely no hate. But, we need to improve our list and just my personal opinion he's not in our top 22.
Started sub 3 times, subbed out twice in games, dropped twice after poor efforts against Hawthorn and Carlton and he tapered off at the end when we needed guys to stand up. He turned it over by foot and hurt us a lot at the end of the year. He can't be in our best 25 if we want to contest for flags.

Shaw is soft footballer, but in modern football that's ok as long as he runs the lines. I'm not sold on Weller I watched a few of his games this season and I wouldn't say his the next superstar.

Not soft at all. Seen him put his body on the line on countless occasions. He is an outside runner they are not meant to be diving in for contested ball.

And this is why Guy McKenna's job is on the line if not gone already. he's lost the players

Matt Shaw is one of our better players IMO. He also looked like he was about to step up toward the end of the season; impressed by some solid play by him in those last few games.

Question: is there any AFL oriented radio stations in SEQ? On a 2 hour drive tonight and wouldn't mind tuning into something AFL related tonight. Any FM stations? Might just have to tune into SEN on my phone.

SEN is your best bet.

Podcasts are your friend. 3AW is a favourite of mine.

Rant incoming:

**** NEAFL.

Whoever came up with the idea of the 'North East Australian Football League' needs a stick shoved up their arse until their ****ing colon ruptures. BRING BACK THE QFL/QAFL.

I couldn't give a shit about the NSW, ACT and NT teams. I care about AFL in Queensland.

There was an announcement not too long ago stating that three clubs from NSW/ACT have withdrawn from the NEAFL. This is on top of the teams that withdrew the year before. What a joke.

NEWS FLASH TO THE TOP-SHITHEADS AT THE AFL: DON'T THROW THE "NON-AFL" STATES INTO A STUPID, POORLY RUN LEAGUE AND HOPE FOR THE BEST.

Seriously, I want a top-tier league below the AFL consisting of the best teams Queensland has to offer - not of this combined state business. I can't be the only person who thinks the NEAFL is a joke of a league that brings embarrassment to Aussie rules. No wonder Cat B rookies can play in the NEAFL but not in the VFL/SANFL/WAFL - BECAUSE IT'S ****ED!

Hopefully the NEAFL shits itself and the individual states gain their own leagues back, because I'm feeling like Tigernova about this shit.

I hear you the idea of the NEAFL was to ensure that the Suns, Lions, HGWS and Swans had a strong comp to build their 2nds in, clearly this hasn't worked.

Not sure what the answer is but I know that sides like Broadbeach and the mighty Morningside panthers deserve another go, it help life the level of AFL across the board.

A state-wide top-tier QLD comp would be the shiz. Cheaper for clubs, would attract more fans due to more games being closer, and would truly expand the game in Queensland. NEAFL truly angers me.
