Article on CFC website confirms Stanley got a week for striking.

He's had bad timing the last couple of weeks - missed the Saints game with hamstring soreness when O'Bree was out and now suspended at the wrong time.

Interestingly the article notes twice that he is the successor to Burns and O'Bree which reinforces the thought that he probably will struggle to play with those two in the side. Seems to me that he will be retained for next year though.

If Burns does go on next year, could he play in a forward pocket to enable Stanley some time in the middle?

I doubt Burns would play on to merely play forward pocket. Agree that Stanners should be retained though.

Yeh, Don't think Burns should be forced to the foward pocket, I think natural progession should dictate that O'Bree should be be "rested" or played in the VFL while Stanners gets a few games in the middle along side Burns, If he cuts it in the clearance work at AFL level his almost surely better then O'Bree in every other aspect of the game and should make it hard for O'Bree to get back in, if not O'Bree can always be recalled.

I think O'Bree would make a fine midfield coach at some point in the near future. I've read interviews where players who've done well at the stoppages have said "yeah, I went to that spot because O'Bree told me to".

I have heard nothing but Rave Reviews about Stanley in the VFL this year playing as a Inside-Midfielder. But 1 Game against the Scum where he Played KPP back and Was okay.

He was Picked up in the 2005 Draft highly at Pick 21. The thing that recurters liked was his work at the Contested Ball and Loved Contact. Even Keven Sheenen said that and Reminded Him of Glen Archer.

We have seen he Great work in the VFL for Willi and Collingwoods VFL Team. Him getting around 30 Possession a Game this year and I would reckon at least half where contested. Has good Disposal by Foot and Hand.

But Can't get a Game in the Possession at AFL, MM plays him at CHF or CHB for some Reason?

I reckon the one thing against him is he is not very fast and that is a Knock on our side is that we are slow and MM does not want to try another slow Mid with Obree and Burns in there. That's why we seen Sharrod come in because of his Pace.

I reckon he should be start to play next year or he might find him self De-Listed at Next Seasons End.

Your Thoughts?

As you have said we have a one pace midfield, Burns is an inspiration and captain. Pendleberry is all round A grade and O'Bree has the runs on the board.

Last year my question marks on him and whether he would make it where his fitness, and his midfield smarts. He always looked to have the quality at the stoppages but did not seem to work hard enough, or be smart enough to get the easy kick, he also didn't seem to have the fitness to run out a game in midfield and spent massive amount of time playing at CHF, HBF, BP. Which is why he wouldn't have got a much of a run at AFL level last year. His a midfield or nothing player at AFL level and he did not have the fitness to play in the midfield at AFL level.

This year early on I still had question marks on his ability to get the cheapies, but his fitness was no longer a real question. In the second half of the year he has done everything right. His a great kick of the ball. A really smart and hard clearnace player, manages to get it out of a contested situation with quick hands. The only reason I can think of that he isn't getting a game is that we can't have such a one paced midfield.

I don't think he should be delisted until he is given adequate oppertunity in the midfield. Unlike a lot of other players who are sub AFL standard but above VFL standard I can't really see the flaw that would keep him from being a good AFL player. Look at Cook for an example of what a difference some good time to adjust to the level and not playing out of position can do for you. Stanley is superior to Cook at VFL level and I'd dare say is a more likely AFL player too. Other examples of that this year would be Kepler Bradley and Playfair, no doubt neither of them are stars but both have preformed well above what we would all expect simply from been able to play in position and given a chance to adjust.

Also as I stated in another thread, there are not too many players who's real strength is at the stoppages and around the clearances who make a difference early on in their career. IIRC Mitchel was drafted mature age from Box Hill VFL, Harris, Cross all developed late IIRC too. Even Bartel took a fair while to make a real difference at AFL level. Players like Judd and Hodge, who have great athletism as well as great clearance work are different as they aren't reliant on being in and under to get all their position/ be a value to the team.

Been extremely unlucky at selection this year but has done enough to prove himself worthy of another chance in 2009. Will just have to keep his head down and bum up and keep working and maybe he'll be a handy backup in September should we lose somebody to injury. Apart from Wellingham there isnt a lot of backup depth midfielders capable of stepping up immediately at the moment.

Definetly Obree reads the ball off hands and during the game better than most, he nearly always knows where the ball is going to go during flight.

If Obree had slightly more speed, no one would be saying a thing about him being dropped he would be a fantastic mid then. His kicking is only an issue because he cant get clear and steady himself
