ESSENDON'S rising young stars help steer the Bendigo Bombers to a 19-point win over the Coburg Tigers when VFL returned to Punt Rd Oval yesterday.

Must Ty harder: Ty Zantuck's five goals were not enough to give Coburg victory yesterday.

While Mark Alvey earned best-on-ground honours, Jobe Watson, Jason Winderlich and big man Kepler Bradley all delivered impressive performances in the 17.17 (119) to 15.10 (100) win.

Alvey gathered 29 possessions, while Winderlich (24) and Watson (20) were also busy as Bendigo led from the outset to claim the inaugural Kevin Sheedy Cup.

Only a wayward boot prevented draftee Bradley, who kicked 4.6 for the game, from dominating the scoring.

Bendigo coach Peter Banfield hailed the Bombers' youngsters, who he said could press for senior spots this week.

"Clubs talk about having great young players, there's a lot of talent here," Banfield said.

"Kepler, Jobe Watson, Jason Winderlich was fantastic off half-back and Brent Stanton, there's some real exciting kids here.

"I think some of the young kids have done enough today to put their hand up. Coming out of today's performance there'll definitely be some pressure from down here for senior spots next week."

at least we have some positives from the weekend :)

Bradley seems to be showing his potential and Alvey is getting back to his best.

Good signs - will be interesting to see who actually gets the nod to play in the ones.
