Would a rookie list spot for Arrowsmith be out of the question next year?

Not at all out of the question if he continues to put in solid performances, and as I have said a number of times on this board, I am all for it.

With the introduction of 2 new clubs over the next few seasons and the draft concessions they are receiving, existing clubs have to find other avenues through which they can recruit.

We have seen over the last few years that there are a heap of more mature-aged players that are playing in the lower leagues around the country that can add something to any club in the top league.

Arrowsmith is doing well and could really add something as a medium sized forward.

Good to see Zach is handling the physical side of things.
I guess the key thing now is to give him time to learn the ins and outs of the game and keep your fingers crossed he doesn't pick up an injury which disrupts his development.
If Zach develops, I'd see to him play as a Hodge/Goddard who float through the midfield and the back half to set up attacks.

Tuohy has that sort of body and kick.

He's a beast and isn't soft.

If we can zone up to cover him whilst he develops, Tuohy could be a good player to give the ball to as we bring it out of the middle or backline. :thumbsu:

From what I know, Zack is a very big strong powerful man, very suited to the modern game. If he has aggression and skill this is great, all we need to do is implement a footy brain in him and get him in the senior side. I've got a load of hope for him, I recon he could play that half back or even midfield role very soon for us.

I swear to God, one day this so called Irish experiment has to throw up a gooden. It's not like we haven't persisted. Carlos has shown great endeavour but Blimey Teddy, how good would it be if Zach turned out to be some sort of Clarke/Kennelly hybrid? :thumbsu:

Would that be a similar role to Kennelly or is he a different kind of player?
That comparison would work too. ;) :D

Would be great to get Peter Labi up and running in the VFL next year...

Apparently he's shown the sort of legspeed in a Bullants practice match that Jeff Garlett possesses.

And can kick.

Yet he's a more powerful athlete.

I'd be happy if he's turns out to be half as good as Jurrah.

Only watched the first 3 quarters so far and have a few notes already on our new recruits.

Joe Dare - impressive so far with his clean skills and decision making. Haven't seen much of his defensive skills yet but from what o have heard he is quite capable in that role. Could well have a player here.

Cachia - massive unit!! Looks quick enough, booming kick and good Handballing skills. He looks so big out there and could well develop into an inside midfielder. He needs to work on getting into the game more and getting more of the footy.

Casboult - also very impressed with this kid. Still looks to have baby fat on him and once he turns that to muscle (and he certainly will) he could be one to watch. He has great hands and a decent enough kick. He knows where to lead and find the footy but his fitness is letting him down. He needs a few pre-seasons under his belt to get his fitness up and build muscle and strength.

Irish mk2 - haven't seen much of him TBH.

Kerr - looks the goods when he has the footy in his hands but doesn't get it enough but that will come with experience. Great user of the ball which is why he was recruited. Apparently he is fierce at ball and a great tackler but haven't seen that just yet.

Davies - was okay, accumulates the ball but didn't do much with it. Was beaten by Jones early and was given a different role. Definately has potential as he can run all day and does have decent skills but they weren't on show.

Will make some more notes and get back to you guys.

Kennelly, Clarke and Tuohy all played half back or half forward in gaelic football (so did Hanley who will probably make his senior debut for Brisbane within a few weeks).
This requires skill and mobility.
You get on the ball a lot and you have to link the play.
Setanta played hurling and was a full forward.
I think our half forward/back type players are the ones to recruit if you want to get a quick return on your investment.
Shields played in the full back line in Ireland.
Dunno how he was going with you before he decided to come home though.

This is the rookie I am most excited about....

I know a couple of boys who played with him a west perth last year and they reckon he is the goods.

Very raw and needs some time but could be a masterstroke by Wayne hughes and co

I reckon most of the rookies our recruiting team got from the 2009 draft all have some promise. Casboult has really impressed me so far since he has been at the club.

Don't expect too much of Ronald McDonaldson just yet, he's very light and will need 2 or 3 seasons at least to fill out and add those 9 or 10 KGs to his frame to make him a big power forward. Has the right attributes I recon, be good to see him in the VFL seniors soon.
Could he play half back and pinch hit up forward for the Ants perhaps?
