The Rd 22 VFL game against Willy at SS which was due to be a curtain raiser to the Geelong-Bulldogs game has been shifted from the sunday at 9.20am to saturday August 25th at 1pm at Simonds Stadium.
It's not on ABC TV.It's probably been moved due to the early time it would've started.

This saturdays curtain raiser is our last for the year. :(

That Saturday is also the day for the final open training session thing they have been doing this year - so the VFL game will follow the senior training session which starts at 10-10.30am

Sounds like this Saturday could be the last VFL curtain raiser, if the following article is anything to go by:

CURTAIN-raisers at Simonds Stadium could soon become a thing of the past as the long-standing tradition struggles to keep up with the modern AFL game.
With lights to be installed at the ground from next year, Geelong's VFL team could instead play 'encore' matches after the AFL match to ensure the seniors and reserves play at the same venue on the same day.
Cats VFL football manager Ben Waller said a number of issues were making it more difficult every year for curtain-raisers to be played, including:
CHANGES to the AFL fixture, with some senior games now starting at 1.10pm or 1.45pm.
"VFL matches starting at 10am and 9.20am is simply too early for many of the travelling sides," Waller said.

What do you mean 'need'? It states above that due to 9/10am being too early, they could have the option of playing them after the seniors.
"With lights to be installed at the ground from next year, Geelong's VFL team could instead play 'encore' matches after the AFL match to ensure the seniors and reserves play at the same venue on the same day."

Firstly, AFL games have been played at 1:10PM for ten years.

Also I assume if Geelong gets a few night games (certainly more than zero - the current situation) then the VFL side can play before then.

I think they are stating that 9/10am starts are too early, but they have put up with them over the past few years due to having no lights and having no other option. When they do have options, an encore match could suit better.

That's what I would've thought. It seems also the problem is teams are sharing rooms. That's probably fine if it's the VFL affialiate of the AFL team playing that day [i.e Bulldogs/Williamstown],but look at tomorrow - Bendigo [Essendon for now] are the VFL team and Adelaide are the AFL team.

Plus there is always the risk of the game being stopped early due to the AFL's 1 hour rule. I think it's a great idea, I think people are more likely to hang around after the main game, than get their early for the VFL.

I saw that in The Age a few weeks ago. I think it's a huge shame, one of the best things about supporting Geelong from Melbourne was making the full day trip, seeing the up and comers in the twos before settling in for the ones, then having a kick after the siren. Great memories to have as a kid, too.

Ah, hang on, they're proposing VFL afterwards. Didn't read the whole thread.

Will definitely be having a look on saturday. After seeing our incredible win against Casey i want some more!

Go Cats

While I enjoy the traditional curtain raiser, with kids these days and living close to k park I'm more than happy for stand alone vfl games such as tomorrow as it gives you a good seat close to the action and the kids a run on the ground during quarters. Equally the idea of encore games has merit, a few more fans might stick around to watch the magoos and support the young boys.

Our boys look to be coming good at the right time of the year and I think can give the flag a good shake. Will be watching Blicavs in particular, think he could make it big in a few years time with a bit of luck. Another Wells master stroke I'm hoping.

Will be at the game and will post if anyone wants me to keep an eye on any one player.

Important match for both teams to win; If the Cats win and Port lose then you guys jump to first position and play Werribee week one in the finals while if the Seagulls win and Werribee lose then the Seagulls slip into the four. Also with the named teams, Talia and Djerrkurra are both playing for the Bulldogs on Sunday so they aren't going to play VFL.
