Beams is the obvious choice. Only problem is that Beams doesn't seem to want the position. Takes guts to make that decision, but just goes to show why he is the best man for the job.

Just because Beams realised his limitations at the time, doesn't mean he hasn't acquired the maturity to take on the position now.

I wouldn't be writing Beams off because he wasn't into taking a leadership position earlier in his career.

I've had the priveledge of working with leaders who took on the role late in their career. My experience is that they have been the best leaders to bring out the best of my abilities.
I think that he also stepped down because he felt that he wasn't able to get on the park and therefore didn't deserve the official title.

Sidey.

outside of that unfortunate suspension, never misses a game.

might be what he needs to go to the next level everyone seems to rave about.

Time for some kids to step up. Elliott has his head screwed on - put him in the leadership group. Same with Adams, even though he's only been there 1 year.
3 years in the system though. These 2 kids are our future leaders, so give them a taste of it now. If we have 4 VC's then Sidey and Beams are the obvious ones.

Sidey and Beams should both be in the leadership group.

I wouldn't be against Travis. I think he'd lead by example in the same way Pebbles did. I really liked him as a captain when Bucks was injured.

The future leadership group I project to include Pendlebury (C) with T.Adams, Scharenberg and Langdon as part of that leadership group.

Vice captain next year? No one is accomplished enough to have earned the title. But given Brown, Keeffe, Sidebottom, Young and Cloke were in the leadership group last year presumably it will be one from that group. I'd be inclined to go with Cloke given he is the most accomplished player among that group but I'd prefer not to have to pick a vice captain.

I actually think Goldsack might be the one.
He would rise to the challenge I think, and do a very good job of it.

If Reid or Brown had been healthy at all this year - I would pick either, or both, of them... our backline is desperate for their leadership. But you don't really want a Vice Capt who can't get on the park.

Cloke is an interesting one. Clearly gets stuck in his own head too much during games. This type of leadership could be a very welcome "distraction" for him - just play his own game naturally, and thoughts focused more on how the team is lining up, and encouraging others etc... but could cause significant problems if it just gives him more things to worry about. I would leave it up to the clubs psychologists to think about how he might respond.

I like Goldy being part of the leadership group, but think he best just focusing on his own role. Maybe he can become a clear leader in defence, until Langdon and Keefe get more seasons into them.

Its worrisome that our most experienced player next year, and our best player until the last couple of years, isn't part of this discussion. Clearly he's a different type of guys - but would have loved Swanny to have shown he could take on a leadership role.

Beams and Sidey are clearly the obvious names, and I think both would be appropriate... and I think Adams could potentially step up to that in a few years.

But I would really want to suggest Caff - seems like a very switched on guy, who has shown the ability to do what is needed to be succesful. Is it too much to ask to be both tagging the oppositions best midfielder as well as taking on a leadership role for those around him... or is that exactly the type of thing a tagger is useful for? The fact that he would be much better placed to see the game from the oppositions point of view and be able to see new changes we could make.

It's a once off move and he'll only last a year (two tops) but just for the heck of it....let Swanny be VC.
Give some young leaders more time to mature and Swanny is so used to taking the heat that "extra responsibility" would be a breeze. (I doubt he'd even know he was VC some days!!) He certainly won't undermine Pendles and couldn't you just hear his motivational speeches at the breaks...
"C'mon boys, ummm....yeah that's about it"
Or "Get stuck into your recovery boys, I'll make the toast with butter slices"

He's got leader written all over him...oh hang on, nah that's just tatts.

Beams isn't a leader and may not be at the club in 12 months time.

Sidebottom.
Lol, what makes you think he is not a leader, he was voted into the leadership group in 2013 then wanted to step down after just to focus on getting his body right, if he wants to take his spot back he will be there. Also he will be there next year and the year after don't waste your time listening to the crap rumors going around

its a little alarming tbh.

But yeah, i would make Beams and Sidebottom vice captains, with a much smaller leadership group consisting of;

Pendlebury, Beams, Sidebottom, Goldsack and Cloke.

Wasn't sold on Sidebottom's leadership in previous year, however in the last 6 rounds when we were getting belted, he was the one that consistently stepped up on field for us, and he deserves to be recognised.
Beams is the other one, who i think just demands the respect of the playing group. He has a presence, thats why the club must do everything we can to keep him, and make him a leader of this club.

Beyond those 3, its pretty bleak in terms of Leaders. Goldsack and Cloke come into calculations- due to their importance to the side. However the loss of; Maxwell, Shaw and Ball in the last two years has really left a whole in terms of natural leaders at the club.

From the outside looking in, Adams appears to me as the only real young aspiring leader at the club and definitely someone to look at in the future once he becomes a consistent best 18 player.

I know for a fact Beams stated to the pies that he no longer wanted to be in the leadership group after he was in it.

Just wanted to concentrate on his footy and said leadership didn't appeal to him.
