Thanks to Essendon suspect he is wishing he'd declared 18 months ago.

I know what you mean. This bloke tried his hardest to destroy our club so I have zero respect for him. But there is something about the devil you know.........

everyone bags him yet he has taken the AFL to another level, remember its a business. But im still glad he is stepping down
He has run an amazing business - no question. But he tried to destroy us - can't forgive.

Against him - absolute tosspot, congenital liar, tried to kill the NMFC, has built the AFL behemoth at the expense of the clubs, and the smaller clubs in particular
For him - played for North, hated by *hird and * supporters, has not actually killed any traditional clubs while creating new ones, is not Gillon McLaughlin.

It's time to move on. Fingers crossed the next guy is better.

At the same time he is now pushing for greater equalisation so that all current clubs can survive off the strength of the league. Who is to say the next bloke will share that sentiment?

Because they have to. Please don't ever forget he tried to kill us.

It pains me to say that I have grudging respect for Vlad.

I've hated some of the things he's presided over, especially during the dark days of 2007 and his efforts to try and minimise the damage to * for their filthy drug cheating.

However, he's the CEO and ultimately he gets his riding instructions from the Commission so how much influence he's had on the AFL's agenda is hard to gauge (my impression is he's been a significant driver) but he wouldn't have acted on that agenda without the imprimatur of the Commission.

He's overseen a transformation of the game that has grown the game and profitability of the game, new stadiums and taken the game to new markets in the Gold Coast and GWS and I believe he's genuine about bringing in equalisation of the competition (which has to be a major benefit for NMFC).

So there's grudging respect for him as he's been a very successful CEO but I'm glad to see him go.

I just hope that whoever replaces him is a worthy successor (please not Gilligan).

I believe that the NRL is finally getting their shit together, they've got a strong CEO and will be pushing hard to grow their market share at the expense of the AFL so Vlad's replacement will need to be a very good operator.

I'm not forgetting shit.

And whoever does come in does not have to go down the equalisation route. The AFL is as vulnerable to lobbying as any other group and a new person may not share the same views. We'll see.

The man tried very hard to destroy this football club.

Regardless of his growth of the game and the business surrounding it, the introduction of two new teams, the negotiation of the TV rights and any other business improvements he's made, he will always be, in my mind at least, the man who sought to move us to the Gold Coast. I can't forgive that.

Yeah I agree. I hate some of the stuff that's happened on his watch but he has also done some very good things for the game. I probably respect him more than most on this board but am also glad to see him go. It's time for a change
