Adelaide Crows
5: R Biglands - pulled down the pants of the form ruckman of the competition, killed him in hit-outs, on the rebound and chipped in with 2 goals. A lionhearted effort...as if we're going to trade him! When he's given the No 1 ruck role, he always performs!

4: S Welsh - has the new haircut lightened the load on Welsh's brain and made him realise he's paid to kick goals? A career-best performance, he is ON FIRE

3: B Reilly - despite Davey's goals, the weight of Reilly's possessions wins him these votes, he looked great and used the ball well

2: A McLeod - looked to have a new lease of life, Craig has lit the fire in his heart again and he was awesome

1: B Rutten - kept Neitz quiet and rarely looked lost for pace, played the linkman well

Best Team Man

3: J Torney - great return game, was everywhere and doing the team things

2: M Doughty - kept dangerman Bruce's influence to a minimum, really taking to his new defensive role

1: M Ricciuto - got knocked down early and still led from the front

Rookie

B Reilly

Any doubt? No. But great roles from Hentschel, who really looks like he's comfortable as an AFL forward now, Mattner and Skipworth looking good in the midfield, Rutten proving great at full-back, Jericho an absolute livewire and Bock always giving an option

5. Welsh (8 goals, gives us an excellent focal point, I thought his overhead marking was a feature)
4. Reilly (FINALLY! He delivered the goods today with 30(?) disposals, thought his kicking was quite nice)
3. McLeod (continued his good form of the last month, delivered beautifully into the forward line)
2. Skipworth (two good games in a row, attacked the ball well - I thought he was one of our best in the first half)
1. Mattner (could make a decent wingman)

Pretty even performance all round really.

BTM

3. Biglands (awesome the ruck, not bad up forward either)
2. Stenglein (did another great job in the thick of the ball ups)
1. Rutten (did alright on Neitz, showed a preparedness to move up the ground too)

Rookie

Reilly (outstanding)

BoG

5 = R Biglands, gave White a bath.
4 = B Reilly, had 33 pos & never wasted 1, to all his detractors = eat humble pie.
3 = S Welsh,
2 = A McLeod.
1 = M Mattner

BTM

3 = B Rutten
2 = T Edwards
1 = J Torney.

Rookie

Reilly.

I would have preferred it if they had of won by less than 60 points though.

And if he doesn't back up next week? Back to gruel again?

Seriously... it's fantastic he had a burster today but how much will it mean if he backs up against the Swans and only gets 7 touches, half of which are clangers?

Today was a long overdue glimpse of what we've been told he's capable of since he was first drafted - the time has now come for him to keep showing it - and only then will I be more than happy to eat humble pie.

YAY!!! What a fabulous game. A pleasure to watch.

POTY

5 Brent Reilly
4 Rhett Biglands
3 Scott Welsh
2 Andrew McLeod - YAY! THE MCLEOD OF OLD RETURNED!
1 Marty Mattner

Team Man

3 Rhett Biglands
2 Andrew McLeod
1 Marty Mattner

Rookie

Brent Reilly - although is he REALLY a rookie? Just pipped Jericho on the line for the points.

Fantastic to see the run from defence back in our game, and so many attacks down the middle of the ground rather than the flanks. That was our equal highest score since Round 20 2001.

POTY

5. Reilly - terrific to see young Radar give us run and dash from defence with good delivery
4. Welsh - Craig hinted after the game that Scotty has had to weigh up his values - staying off the p*ss has seen him return to his old form.
3. McLeod - I expected him to play with the enthusiasm of a dog let off a leash with Ayres gone - and he did. Macca is back.
2. Biglands - great game by Biggles in ruck. Thrashed the pants off of White all game.
1.Mattner - as good as I've seen him play. Tough and hard as usual but with a tinge of brilliance at times.

Best Team Man

3. Biglands - see above.
2. Torney - stiff not to be in the best players. Along with Reilly gave a ton of run from defence.
1. Edwards - as usual played a great team game plus a bit of flair.

Rookie

Reilly - outstanding today. Good games from Mattner, Skipworth, Bock, Jericho and Rutten as well

I have been waiting for us to play THAT style of game. Down the corridor, plenty of run out of defence and that tactic of having a "spare" man 10-15 meters on the defensive side of the stoppages who recieves a handball and keeps attacking. For most of the day that man was McLeod. A case of everybody playing well and most pleasing all fo our rookies were key players today. Was disappointed that Watts didn't have a lot of game time.

Best on Ground

5 - Brent Reilly - SUPERB. His run from the HB, his disposal and his decision making was FANTASTIC. Great game but it would be even better if he backed it up against Sydney.

4 - Scott Welsh - For 2 weeks in a row he was a match winner. When in form he IS one of the best midium forwards in the comp if not the best. Unfortunatly we haven't seen that for a long time. His current form patch reminds me of his month prior to OP in 2002.

3 - Rhett Biglands - Gave White an absolute bath in every aspect of the game. One of the best games he has played for a club. Time to back it up.

2 - Andrew McLeod - Was awsome today. Ran the lines got *****loads of possesions and used them well.

1 - Jason Torney - Once again proving those doubters that he IS in out best 18. Tough as nails, courageous and provides a lot fo run.

Case of all played well and there are a lot of unlucky players to miss out on the votes.

Best Team Man

3 - Ben Rutten - Played really well on Neitz and kept him to only 2 goals. Mobility still a concern but I reckon he did well. Would play him on Hall next week. It would be a HUGE test as Hall is one of the most mobile big man around.

2 - Hayden Skipworth - 2 good games in a row. Unlucky to miss out on votes.

1 - Martin Mattner - another one who played a great game and unlucky to miss out on votes. One of his best games for the club.

Rookie

Brent Reilly - He showed what he is capable of. More of the same please :). All of our Rookies played well. I thought Hentschel was in for a big day before he got injured. Bock was great at CHF. Jezza was lively, Skippy was again good. Mattner was also good. Watts didn't spend a lot of time on the ground.

I have only watched 3 games this weekend but Reilly along with Schulz would have to be the candidates for a rising star nomination this week.

Harsh, Stiffy! Are you trying to destroy him before he even gets established? McGregor would be the better option...

What I will say is that by playing FB he releases Bassett as a running third tall, which I have ALWAYS considered his best role. If he can hold down FB consistently then our defence will be awesome.

What I also have noticed is he seems to have lost some of the upper-body bulk he had last year - do you think he was made to reduce his weights programme to lighten him up and improve his pace/mobility?

Nathan Carroll was clearly Adelaide's best today. :rolleyes:

Seriously, Reilly was clearly BOG. I didn't realise he was such a good kick.

The pick for Hall is Bassett who for some reason always plays well on Hall.

If Rutten can play as well as he did today while ATST improves his agility, I reckon we might have a FB we are craving for.

I think he has lost weight to improve his pace and I think he covers the ground a bit quicker this year. I would just love him to improve his mobility.

Does Reilly qualify for rising star?
Will be a real toss up between those two?
Schulz got 4 of his 6 goals in a 15 minute period, so for a sustained effort we might get lucky.

He's still 20 and had played seven games to the end of last year. By my reckoning he does.

Most people on the AFL board are pushing for the Eagles Sam Butler.

Definately still an issue, particularly forwards who can turn him around.
He was assisted today by our midfield that dominated Melbournes, consequently cutting off a lot of quality supply.

Yes he does. I reckon Skippy might also be a chance with 2 good games in a row and WC's Sam Butler has been consistently good for the last month or so.

I agree on all counts.

Even today wit limited supply Neitz turned truck inside out and had 3 snap shots and 2 of them were shockers. He definetly need to improve his agility but there is something there to work with for the next 8 weeks to see if we keep him or not.

Bock is really stepping up and I reckon his woork at CHF today was fantastic.

Rutten went okay today, but there were a couple of embarrassing moments when his lack of mobility was very much exposed. In a tight game, it could be the difference between winning and losing. Still, now's the time to take that risk.

I thought the way Bocky presented himself today was terrific, and he looked like he believes he belongs at this level now. 2005 is starting to look brighter already.

I know its harsh but on todays effort Rutten isn't the FB answer, but lets see how he settles down. He's a smart footballer who may improve the way he plays the position.

Like Bocks movement, would like to see him garb a few more contested marks though.

We have some talent and I was never convinced we were destined to be in the lower ranks for a few years.

A lot of experienced talent still to come back.
But definately reason to be optimistic not pessimistic of our future:)

Geez, I'm surprised most are picking Macca in the votes. Looked like he was enjoying his footy again, but his kicking was atrocious & even lazy at times.
In this sort of game you can say all played well.
Thought Hentschell may have snuck a rookie vote for his cameo performance

POTY
5 Reilly
4 McLeod
3 Welsh
1 Johncock ( I guess his game didn't come through that well on TV as this is his first votes:confused: )
1 Rutten
1 Biglands

BTM
3 Edwards
2 Roo
