3. Pickett - great game, Byron. Forward or midfield, best afield.

2. Harvey - Got a lot of ball linking through the back half and the midfield. Will become even more important if Stevo's injury is as bad as first reports are.

1. Saverio - Toss up between him and Grant. Both very good, but his goals at crucial times and some big grabs, had to give him the 1 vote.

Apologies to Grant, another good game; Sinclair, his best game, took a couple of very gutsy marks going back with the ball and laid some good tackles; Kingy; Makepeace, who did a pretty good job overall on Phil Matera.
Also blokes like Colbert, Blakey and Rawlings did their jobs. I thought Rawlings played a important role as a defensive forward on Wirrupunda, who can be dangerous if he gets a lot of ball as he sets up a lot of play through the back line.
Very good, free flowing game of footy.

Darky i swear you dont read my posts. Not once did i say that Cousins is a better player than Fairy. Fairy is a legend of the game and will go down as one of the greats but right now at this very minute, Fairy is a bit slow and old. Right now at this very moment nobody on your Canberra list is playing better footy than Ben Cousins. And with Fairy getting older and Cousins getting better then it is inevitable. Will Cousins ever be as good as Fairy? No. But right now he is playing better footy and if you just put down your Canberra glasses and use your head you would come to that conclusion too.

You don't mind contradicting yourself, do you?

First you say that we have no players of the quality of Ben Cousins on our entire list, then when I put the evidence in front of you, you change your mind and say "at the moment" none of our players are playing as well as Cousins.

If you read over our B&F threads since the season started, you will find the Grant, Harvey, King and Stevens have featured strongly in the votes almost every week. This is in a side where there is an excellent spread of talent in the top 10-12 players. No player is a walk up start to be our best every week because we actually have several players who can play well, not one good player and 21 nuff nuffs.

I'm pretty sure at some stage in our argument about Cousins' star status, I brought up the point that while he gets a lot of possessions, his opponents do as well.
After Stevens went off the ground very early yesterday, Cousins spent the day matched on King and Grant.
Cousins 31 possessions, Grant 30, King 27.

West Coast had more inside 50's than the Kangaroos (56 to 51) and Cousins had 9 of those.
The Kangaroos had 37 rebounds out of 50 - subtract 8 from getting the ball after a behind, and you have 29 times the ball went in and straight back out. Why? Because your midfielders don't hit targets.

West Coast had more inside 50s, but only 6 goals from marks, as opposed to the Kangaroos' 11. Why? Once again, because your midfielders don't hit targets.

In defense of Cousins, the reason Jod23 sees him as one of the leagues superstars is because he is the only player on the West Coast list that would get a game at another club, and probably only with Freo or St. Kilda. They are saddling lacking in every department, and I can't see any quick fix either.

If Carey is past his best, then Matera, and Jakovich should be put to pasture. These champions should have retired at the end of last year, because this is not the way they would like to end their career, or derserve to end their careers.
