I would be very content with running all of Geelong, West Coast and Brissy close away, beating Hawthorn (non-negotiable in that game) and the Dees coz they suck.

End up with somewhere around pick 5/6 ... that's still get top end talent territory, and if we're smart about identifying a need, we can easily get THE elite talent for the draft in that spot.

just watched the last 2 mins on the afl site. ATley's panicked kick in the centre was appalling, there were guys around him he should have given it off to. TW's goal was complete arse. When there's only a goal in it, luck is a factor and it didn't run our way today. Still a lot of upside from todays game.
The first thing my 10yo son said after the siren, 'what was that shit kick from Atley? He should of handballed.' He knows his footy (check back in 7 years, BFNAAK).

Hrovat was fine

More concerned with Macmillan and Ahern

Taylor was the wrong decision, he is not ready

Yeah, I was thinking of broaching Ahern earlier. Too many people think we're restraining a pick 7 player but he has never shown he is more than a good player with some spurts of very good. He's dead centre of 7 and what we paid for him in 69 at the moment. There's a talent there though and I think he needs an extended run but he ain't the messiah. Reminds me a lot of Jed two years ago... it's there but it's on him to bring it. Doesn't mean he gets a free ride though. At the moment he's first out for Higgins and that is what it is.

Ahern has a classic case of second year blues, with added Journey To The Centre Of The Footy Earth with late-stage Brad Scottism added.

He'll be fine.

He's pure icing. Put him outside of a firing midfield and he's worth a spot.

Otherwise, he currently offers little else.

Terrible by Atley. But gee wind back the tape to just under a minute and watch Goldy get beaten by McKernan in the ruck from a Boundary Throw In. McKernan taps it in on the fat side of the ground allowing McGrath to run onto the pill. A whole lot of wrong by a whole lot of players. Sure Atley intercepts and proceeds to cough the ball back up but there was a whole lot of wrong happening late. We need to get better in those situations. :stern look

If you do hack kick it go towards the boundary, even a deliberate out of bounds with Essendon stuck on the wing is better than opening the game up to them. As soon as I saw that ball head to midfield I knew we were stuffed on the other side.

How many years should we extend him for?

He's a fringe player who is lucky he still had a year on his contract or he would have gone last year. Doesn't change the fact that today he was in the top half of our players today and is copping more shit then deserved for today.

Completely agree.

For all the thirsty ones demanding he gets named though over the last few months clearly there are better experts at the club. Not worth rushing anything. He wouldn't have won us any of the games we lost.

If McMillan learns to tackle that shot never takes place.

Trailing in behind and a half arsed attempt is his trademark.

Always been a turnstile tackler, that and his half hearted attempts to scoop a ground ball that usually clean bowls him.

Haven’t gone through all the posts but has anyone mentioned Luke McDonalds 1st half brain fades? The dropped mark that lead to a goal, the 50 that lead to a goal and the high tackle...all efforts that kept Essendon in touch. Simply can’t have that if we are to take the next step.

Credit to Shaw, we copped an absolute belting for half that game under immense pressure and siege, and then used the 3rd quarter to analyse the correct matchups and get the boys back from a big margin down to a point lead that could've been a pinch win, all the while doing this with half the team not giving the performances we wanted whether thats effort or a hard tag.

If won, we'd be singing his praises as head coach, and despite the loss I still think he coached an immense game and was keeping Worsfold in check, not bad for a newbie.

But **** me that hurts, I wanted this win, of all wins and its a double smack with that officially cooking the season. It's done for good now.

Simply not enough output from Ahern, Hrovat (who had good moments but very brief), Taylor, and Larkey just couldn't get the rewards for effort. Had Brown not been on absolute fire this could've been alot worse, we were lucky to drag ourselves back into it, had Wood not done his calf it could've been the difference for the pinch win.

That sucks though, really sucks to lose like that.

Very true.

Scott Thompson can be added to the list of players who cost us with first half brain farts as well.

The difference between these two and McMillan is that they at least put their body on the line for their footy club.

Ahern needs to improve and LDU to improve as well. The two of them together will be brilliant, alongside Jed, Cunners and Jy.

I wouldn't have picked him but once he's in he has to be judged on his performance. His performance tonight was alright. Should he keep his spot? Dunno.

But this game was lost because of a handful of players who deserve to be picked every week but who didn't do enough for too much of the game. Not because of one dubious selection who actually played his part.

We need to get better. That's ok. We've gone from 2-7 to 7-9. Work to do.

Simpkin's second half shows up in the first half, and we're probably not having this discussion mate.

We're not far off, and we have a shit load more upside than this mob.

He was trying too hard to be “must be macho and hurt them ”. I also think back to the zurhaar “high” tackle (please) Advantage play on. Ping. Their goal
Scott Thompson body push (didn’t look like it to me)
So many umpire decisions which directly gave them goals.

Today highlights how much we fail to control the footy on the outside. Essendon were dominant (again) in this area. Our defence held up really well considering the amount of footy they were getting inside 50.

Polec was deplorable in his role and to me he is flying under the radar. Has done next to nothing for the last few weeks.

His lack of wrong foot shits me. That bullnshit 30m handball to * players going inside 50 instead of a kick to the top of the square.

Simpkin, Zurhaar, Larkey, LDU, and Thomas will all be senior players next year who will be much better.

Who is going to jump in improvement for them? Aaron Francis? Spare me.
