It was pushing the friendship when Hussey and North were given extensive runs despite poor form for series after series merely due to being from the Swan State. Now with the selection of Beer the blatant pro-sandgroper bias amongst the Australian selectors is clear. When will you stop handing out baggy greens with baggy yellows, Mr Hilditch?

Absolute disgrace.

I'd still like to know why he wasn't playing for them today.

Poor lad's knackered, he's been run ragged with all that net practice and trying to take in Cooley explaining all that new subversive stuff about getting the arm upright.

He'll be alright on the night and if he has a bit of luck and he's our x-factor player and... he was ICC Player of the Year 2009 you know.

No, I don't understand it either.

Mr Cricket's carry has been astounding but I guess there has been a tremendous amount of guilt for not including him in the 05 ashes side. Apparently he wasn't suited to english conditions after slaughtering them in the ODI's and then butchering county cricket.

Available at the drop of a hat, they were too pigheaded to admit they were wrong and bring him into the team.

That said, he loves butchering england and its good to see him in form, I think after some stats boosting against the minnows after the ashes series, his ticket might be punched no return.

MJ has an X factor, its lost atm, and has been for much of the past 12 months, I wonder how much of this has been people 'helping him' with his action, and style. He's not the bowler he was 18 months ago. Is this cooleys fault?

North was selected on the back of 1 good season and his leadership credentials and maturity. Punter has 12 months to 2 years tops, Clarke has been appointed the next leader and again the selectors are too arrogant to realise he has no leadership potential, North was brought in to be his VC and assistant as they are about the same age and friends. Sadly North can't bat or bowl, and definitely can't do it under pressure. Being a good guy isn't enough. Its not North's fault that the selectors are ******ed, and he cops some shyte, including from me, but he's a good bloke put in a bad position.

I reckon Michael Clarke is a bit like Kim Hughes, appointed leader, has tonnes of pressure on him, and really isn't capable. This is again the sort of shyte the team was under in the 80s, till Simpson, border and sawle took the reins.

MC might be a great batsman if he was given a chance to bat without pressure, and in the crumbling empire he is one of the better fielders going around as well. You could build a team with MC as a no.5 or no.6 bat, without all the shyte going around him, but his head might have been blown up too large, he won't be capable of being a batsman under another leader.

WTB sawle, simpson and AB back plox. And make deano the fielding coach:(

Johnson is NOT , nor will he ever be, Western Australian. That is a birthright. He occasionally plays for WA.

Just as Simon Katch is a Western Australian who plays for NSW.

And for the benefit of Footy commentators - There is no such thing as a former Western Australian. I'm sure the South Aussies feel the same way.

I feel dirty having even bitten at this troll.

<shrug> d.hussey is loved by all victorian fans. I think most WA understand that at the time he left WA was filled with talent and there just wasn't room for him, langer, rogers, m.hussey, martyn, gilchrist (who the wa claim as their own :D), campbell etc. In a line up like that, and a few more, where would d.hussey slip in?!

on that basis, we should give o'keefe a go at victoria given hauritz is the nations greatest spinner and virtual all rounder on the basis is his century!

It's quite fair enough to enjoy a player from another state playing for your side - no problem with that and it's been happening since Jesus played full back for Jerusalem.

These guys should never be identified as ( for instance ) - Western Austalian Adam Gilchrist. WA player Gilchrist - sure. Beer ,of course, is another example

Pedantic I know but I happen to be fussy about that, and I'm not alone.

We all have our little things that annoy us - that's mine.:)

Not pedantic, just provincial. You sound like someone from one of those little country towns where someone who moved in 25 years ago is "the new chap".

Gilchrist has lived in Perth most of his adult life, his kids were born there, he does his shopping at Subi markets and he's been nominated for West Australian of the Year. By any reasonable standards he is a sandgroper.

Provided those standards don't include where he was born, where he grew up, where he was educated, where he learnt his cricket, for whom he made his first-class debut, where (to this stage at least) he has spent more than half his life, etc.

Agreed.

Call it what you will - I just happen to think that way. I've also spent more of my adult life out of WA than in it.

You have your "Standards'' - I have mine.

And for the record I was born in Subiaco and lived in Perth until 21.

Your obvious sophistication would preclude you calling Perth a little country town though. I'm sure the lesser classes around here will do that for you. :D

I do get a bit tired of all this "Bias" stuff that's thrown around. Like you, I'm completely baffled as to why Beer has been selected. I am also more than happy for North to be dropped. I don't care 2 hoots which State the members of the Australian cricket side play for - as long as their form warrants their spot and they give it their all.

I would think choosing to be a permanent resident, bring up his children there and being nominated for Western Australian of the Year would entitle him to the title if he wished.

Not that I'd have any problem with him describing himself as a New South Welshman either. But saying you aren't entitled to identify with a state just because you weren't born or grew up there is incredibly silly. If anything, to me he's more of a sandgroper than people born in WA who abandon the state pretty much straight out of childhood. ;)

But if we count Gilchrist as a sandgroper then we have to count KP as a pom.

I'm of the view you claim the blokes you make (or made it with that state)

For mine Katich is a WA boy, MacGill isn't

Gilchrist is a WA boy, Johnson isn't

Happy to accept Hussey as a Vic product, but Beer and Rogers are WA.

etc etc
