Suprisingly only 2 of the all concurring WA under 18 side were placed in the "top 16 Picks" according to Matty Burgan or the Burgertron as he is commonly known.

The 2 WA boys are Kane Lucas and Anthony Moribito. No Suprise there.

So looks like we could get an influx of good WA talent in the side next year.

These 3 were in the Under 18 All Aust team and if they slip to the second or 3rd round I would be very happy.
Brad Sheppard
Mitch Duncan
Travis Colyer

Kane Lucas and Lewis jetta should be our priority IMO, we need someone with good kicking skills to round out our midifeld. Would love Coyler with a late round pick as well.

I have been looking back through the drafts of 03,04,05 to see if there might be someone to come back to perth and do a steinglien but nobody stood out other than Vanberlo - too expensive I would say
think we are better off with these youngsters.
Wa depth over the past few years has been good but we continue to take best available from around the country - seems to be working.

x2

However we'll be lucky to get Lucas if we finish 11-12th imo, especially if Melbourne as expected get a PP.

John Butcher (Vic Country)
The key forward entered the NAB AFL Under-18 championships as a possible No.1 draftee but more likely the No.2 pick. Although he did not make the All-Australian team, he remains high in the pecking order, but probably now a top-five pick.

Jesse Crichton (Tasmania)
Another who recruiters continue to rate highly despite his missing out on All-Australian honours. Most still believe the AIS/AFL Academy graduate is Tasmania's best prospect, although Ryan Harwood has his fans.

Ben Cunnington (Vic Country)
One of Vic Country's best and an Under-18 All-Australian. The versatile prospect has been likened to Brad Sewell, and averaged 20 disposals per match during the U18 champs. His ferocious attack on the ball and hard-running attributes keeps him right in the mix for the first round of November’s NAB AFL Draft.

Jack Fitzpatrick (Vic Metro)
Versatile for an athlete who stands at 201cm, and his flexibility makes him an attractive proposition. Can fill a key position at either end of the ground and should be a first-round pick at this point.

Jordan Gysberts (Vic Metro)
Modern-day midfielder who has been likened to emerging versatile Demon Jack Grimes.

Kane Lucas (Western Australia)
Joint vice-captain of WA’s unbeaten U18 team, and named on the wing in the All-Australian squad. He also spent time for WA across half-forward, adding a dimension to his game, which some recruiters believe enhanced his status.

Dustin Martin (Vic Country)
An onballer whose fortunes appear to have risen after an outstanding series of midfield performances in the U18 champs. Averaged 21 disposals per match in the champs.

Andrew Moore (Vic Metro)
The younger brother of Richmond defender Kelvin has been likened to Swan Ryan O'Keefe. Still a strong prospect and was particularly impressive early in the U18 champs.

Anthony Morabito (Western Australia)
His status has grown, particularly after his best-on-ground performance against South Australia at Subiaco Oval. Named All-Australian, the run-and-carry midfielder is now regarded as a top five selection. Top three is not out of the question.

Matthew Panos (South Australia)
Key forwards are never a dime a dozen in any draft and are again thin on the ground in this year's draft pool, which is why Panos pushes into the top 16. Kicked 14 goals in the championships, including five in one match.

Gary Rohan (Vic Country)
This time last year, Rohan was a full-back with Victorian country club Cobden. Now the exciting, high-leaping, hard-at-it half-forward is an All-Australian and appears to be a top 10 draft pick following his outstanding championships. He is one to watch.

Tom Scully (Vic Metro)
Came into the champs with the No.1 draft tag and finished them with the same mantle. Although South Australian Jack Trengove looms as a genuine challenger, it is hard to imagine the hard-running midfielder’s name not being the first called out in November.

Koby Stevens (Vic Country)
A versatile midfielder/flanker who impressed in the carnival despite missing out on NAB AFL All-Australian honours. He was Vic Country's best against Tasmania, for example. An AIS/AFL Academy graduate

Luke Tapscott (South Australia)
One recruiter has likened Tapscott's body mould to that of Leigh Matthews. The powerful midfielder/forward further enhanced his status with nine goals and 30 inside 50s for SA. But it is his disposal efficiency and beautiful foot skills that keep him right up here.

Jack Trengove (South Australia)
After winning 31 disposals in SA's first match, Trengove continued to go from strength to strength. The hard-at-it midfielder/forward is rated so highly that he is an outside chance for No.1 pick, firming for No.2 and top five at worse.

Nathan Vardy (Vic Country)
One of the leading rucks in this year's draft, the 198cm tall is a genuine ruck prospect. Although he was pipped for an All-Australian guernsey by South Australian James Craig, he still looms as a first-rounder at this stage.

I'm undecided between who to get out of Morabito and Lucas although when the time comes, I feel that we'll be lucky to get one of them. However, I'd pick Lucas because of his foot skills because that's what a lot of our midfielders lack (and I hope that Swift can become like Morabito).

There definitely is a lot of talent coming out of WA this year. However, 2 players that i'm quite intrigued about are Nat Fyfe and Nick Winmar. They haven't been talked up as much, and are obviously in the shadows behind Lucas and Morabito. But i'd love to know a bit more about them, for those that have seen them in WA Colts this year. I was pretty impressed with them, from the glimes they showed in teh carnival, especially fyfe. Cheers.

Watching Priddies, Rosa, Fletcher and co constantly butcher the ball by foot on the weekened it made it painfully obvious we need someone with good foot skills through the middle. Lucas offers us that whilst Morabito's disposal can be iffy. Lucas should be our obvious choice as a result.

A fair chunk of the all-"concurring" WA side are ineligible for this year's draft, in particular Swallow, Matera and Darling.

Tapscott sounds like Shannon Hurn mk II.

Add Blayne Wilson and Jamie Cripps like Matera both GC targets, Cripps looks a beauty.

Lach72 you dont watch wafl colts then, Nat Fyfe is (Mr X Man) Claremonts make something out of nothing kid, and he is a great mark.

I love Winmar, but it will take him a while to make a impact at the next level, I couldn't see him do a Stephen Hill and pop up straight away.

He would be a guy that doesn't get a game until his third year on the list.

I posted this elsewhere but if any under age WA boys seriously want to end up at the Eagles and the Eagles want them they should sign with the GC as 17yr olds this year.

Then they can say trade me to the Eagles and the Eagles will then come up with a player swap or trade away next years draft picks for them.

Matera = Eagles 2010 first round pick # 24ish or swap for say McKinely maybe!

With some fore thought these kids can legally engineer where they get drafted, not many kids have that option.

Obeanie - you are spot on. This is a very unique situation and one that should be recognized by all and sundry. In addition these kids dont even have to move - they can simply stay here next year and then say they dont want to move. Wow.

Obi sounds good in theory buy I doubt its that easy.

your avatar - is that judd's impersonation of Hanabal !

His style is more comparable with Porplyzia from what I've seen. Josh Toy plays more like Hurn (with more zip).

That photo of Judd has many meanings for many people.

AS for the GC17 U17 trade theory its a no brainer for either side really.

GC17 are laughing all the way to the trade table, they can sign up the best U17 talent in the land and then those who don't want to move they trade them for picks or established players come 2010 without erroding their draft concessions picks 1 - 9.

Hopefully Bluey McKenna is still there and he gets a good trade deal for the GC17 that ends up with Matera wearing an Eagles jumper.:thumbsu:
