Sorry people, not much time for having a life or even enjoying my footy at the moment. Will start with a brief write up of the Subi v Falcons game tonight, then try and finish later.

Lions v Falcons, Fri night

Well, it's 2 great rivals of recent times clashing at Leederville Oval tonight. WP seemed impressive pre-season and Subi look to have recruited some handy players, whilst sending their reserves to Perth. :p

Subi relied too much on Broady last year and they obviously saw this. Danny Hughes looks a very good prospect. Bristow is back after a disastrous run with injuries (hopefully I haven't jinxed him), Cockie looks primed for a very good sesaon, if he can just curb that aggression.

The Falcons look to have a very good running side, but not sure about their big man stocks, especially with Darling called up early to the Eagles. Is Kepler back this week, injured, or with the Dockers? (that's how much I've kept up with footy of late).

Should be a cracking match, great conditions and I think the Falcons will get over the line by 2-3 goals.

Tigers v Swans, Claremont Oval

With Swans having lost the first match, I think a little more emotion will come into this game. Claremont have more to gain, emotionally, IMO, but Swans probably wouldn't want to go 0-2 at the start of the season. Both teams have different strengths, with Swans being in height and Claremont's being in running. McKenzie and DeBoer further strengthen the AFL reserves team and probably make it even harder for Swans to win.

For Swans to get close, a few guys that were ordinary, or MIA last week, need to step up. Hunter was awful for me, Davis no better and the defence tried to play about 5 metres off their player, just for kicks and giggles. James tagged Wulff most of the game, got in the best players I don't know how, was continually 10-15m behind him. Lammie, is it too late to reverse that transfer to Peel?

The teams:

Royals v Doggies, Leederville Oval

This shaped as a ripping match, until I saw both Bairstows in the Sowfs line up. I mean, it's like Lammie being in Swans line up, for crying out loud! So I have to change my tips now. :p

The Royals played a good, even game last week, were first to the ball and delivered well inside 50. Probably didn't make the most of their ascendancy. Josh Smith looks a huge bonus at present, along with Chartres, Lee and Sweet continued their strong form from the end of last year and guys like Polak and Pettifer are going to make the most of their opportunities, so you have to lock tight on them.

On the other hand Souths have Murphy full time, with Wilson back this weekend (maybe?). Graham fit is a big asset. Their run is going to be pivotal, with the likes of Dell-Olio, Cook and Collica. Cook could be a good get, whilst Dell-olio needs to re-find the 2009 form to really push Sowfs back up the tabe.

The teams:

Emergemcy S Kersten L Teague M Leece
Int. R Adams, G Wilkie, C Amato, T Bairstow, J Winter

Demons v Sharks, Lathlain (it will always be Lathlain to me)

Well, the demons have the chance to get their season off to a bright start, whilst the Sharks have the chance to put their demons off last week behind them. Both teams also need to make the most of having their AFL players, because they may lose them later in the season.

The demons have lost quite a few players but gained a few. Zucconi returns and probably give some stability to the back line. Damon White is their biggest catch, but he is 30/31, so it will be interesting to see the impact. Citizen Kane at CHF is a good get, because I rated him pretty highly when he was at EP a couple of years ago, really like his attack and hardness at the ball. Seamus Young on the wing is also a very handy in. Butler and Smith to HB makes the defence pretty solid, so kicking goals against should be difficult. Look a good team this season, but they have before and delivered little.

The Sharks have Kerr for another week, with a new NOI procedure he'll need to be a bit more careful. :p Presumably he'll get a few more minutes than last week, so probably play three quarters. The O'Brien brothers are reunited on the FF line, happy times eh. :p Griffin in the ruck should give the Sharks an advantage, although McDougall did play well there last year. I think this game is also hard to split and we should see another highly entertaining match. :thumbsu:

Where did Shayne Zanetti come from? In 7 games, averaged 9 disposals and 0.6 goals a game in 2010 and opens 2011 with 13 disposals and 5 goals straight.

Was he playing league last year? The player stats aren't clear.

He was a defender, never seen him play forward (which doesn't mean he hasn't). I've liked the jobs he's done in defence and he was quite good in the U23 all star game at the end of last year. I actually thought he might have put his hand up enough for a rookie list spot.

. McKenzie and DeBoer further strengthen the AFL reserves team and probably make it even harder for Swans to win.

Oh Swannies......dear oh dear. Such a cheap shot.
Probably accurate though as far as I know.

The form of Claremont is good so far and the list seems strong but from what I've seen they will be far from unbeatable.

They do make errors, lose focus and lairise a bit when dominating play, a club like Swans who know how to apply pressure and stick to a game plan have every chance of winning.

Goddamn I could almost quote myself here.

Swannies came out and took it up to Claremont. Lots of hard running and pressure almost brought Claremont undone. The Swans only faded late in the game.
For Claremont it was a very long hard game. Their passing was woeful at times, they read the ball terribly and were more undisciplined than I've seen them play.......maybe ever.

The umpires..........atrocious for both teams. A combination of stupidity of Claremonts part and softness and bad decision making on the part of the umps gifted the Swans three goals.
There was a free awarded for.....I dunno, Claremont player took a mark, maybe the Swans player hit him late from behind. Anyway, Claremont player on the ground, kick awarded and another Claremont player runs in and starts a fight. That should really have reversed the free as far as I know, yet Claremont got a 50 for it. Go figure.

Anyway, the Monts came away with a win which is nice but they are going to have to make improvements imo.....but it's a long season.

How? I didn't mean it to be, just that there are 6 or 7 AFL listed players, no harm meant by it. :)

I think the hard running, or lack of it at the end, has brought us undone the last 2 weeks. Not sure if we've gone in too tall or are a bit underdone? There's a few senior players that wouldn't be getting a game next week, if it were up to me.

Some Peel parents that I know have always told me J Orr is shocking, well I witnessed that in all it's glory today. The 50 pablo was talking about was for Luke Miles attempting a spoil. I mean, that's what happens when a ball is kicked in the air and someone tries to stop you from marking, they spoil it. Didn't arrive late, just hit the player in the marking contest. Sure, the Claremont player came off with the blood rule, but it was a good, hard contest. I saw the same last week as well, you can't come in from the side and spoil, or they're trying to stop it, or they don't know what they're doing?:p

The last comment applies to Swans more than Claremont, I reckon. Need to support each other more, too many times 1 on 2 or 3. The attitude that I am afraid of was epitomised by Geappen giving Swift a spray, and a laugh (I really don't like players laughing on the field, just me being old fashioned) for an OOF, when Swans were 2-3 goals behind. Not the time to do it. As pablo said, early days though, but another tough game against the garlic munchers next week.

However, the tigers should be recognised and congratulated for a fine win, they were certainly made to work for it. :thumbsu:

Yeah they had to work very hard for the win today, which is probably a good thing for the Monts at least, I do think the Swans will be back up thereabouts this year when it counts.

My 15 year old son was swearing at the umps as well. Kept shaking his head and asking why the ump wouldn't let the game flow and let the players play.

Why isn't the obvious game of the round/GF rematch not on TV?

ABC is a joke

well i enjoyed the south royals game despite the result, reasonable quality game and competitive until quite late in the last quarter.
best pair of legs ive seen on a trainer as well :)

Little wonder our boys were going down with cramp.

Wouldn't make any difference, she doesn't stop talking to that other male trainer. Surprised some of your players don't have to deliver drinks to themselves. They just walk around the oval talking.:p
