Turns out Subi didn't nominate him - His doctors advised against it.

But he can still be added later on.

The Black Swans will have to ensure they don’t spread their wings too wide if they are to defeat their rivals in next month’s interstate football clash.

WAFL State coach Ashley Prescott made a secret visit to Melbourne last weekend to gather intelligence for the battle with the Big V at Teac Oval on May 26.

And the size of the VFL’s No. 1 ground has raised concerns about the style of play the Black Swans will adopt in the match – the first time since 1992 a WA team has played in Victoria.

Teac Oval, home of VFL team Port Melbourne, is shorter yet wider than most WAFL grounds, with a playing size of 165m by 134m. In comparison, Claremont Oval is 174m by 128m.

The Claremont coach made the most of his club’s bye last weekend to watch Williamstown draw with Port Melbourne at Burbank Oval on Saturday and Sandringham defeat Werribee at Bartercard Oval the next day. Prescott also visited Teac Oval.

“It has been a while since I watched VFL footy,” Prescott said. “It was just a matter of having a look at the ground we will be playing on and VFL coach Mark Williams is also coach of Sandringham.

“I got an idea of some of the AFL rookies running around. And there are a few of them.”

AFL rookie squad members are eligible for selection in the clash and the VFL features far more of those players than WA, with 10 national league teams based in Victoria.

Anthony Jones probably.

He did it last year and Ashley Prescott is the coach, they're best mates.

Good to see Peel's Hayden Ballantyne get a call up into the squad, will gain some very good experience from being with that group of players

Omissions -
Mathew Seal, Tallan Ames, Justin Sprigg and Blake Broadhurst(inj.)
