Well, I figured someone may as well create this thread given that some of our recruits are beginning to take part in pre-season matches for the WAFL, and then we regular season starts we can swap over. I don't think there's going to be anything in the way of match reports until the big dances begin but please keep in mind when viewing these stats that WAFL pre-season matches are 20 minutes each quarter with no stoppages/time-on and an 8 man bench.

East Perth vs Claremont (March 2nd)
East Perth
10 WILSON, Blayne 10 disposals 4 kicks 6 handballs 2 marks 1 tackle

28 MORTON, Cale14 disposals 11 kicks 3 handballs 3 marks 2 tackles 0 hit outs 3 inside 50's 0 goals 0 behinds

As noted in other threads, McGoverns was named for Claremont but didn't play as he's been held over as an emergency for the NAB cup.

Nothing too much to note from this game, other than it is good to see Morton back on the park. Hopefully he can crack a game in the Alice next week so we can get a sense of the Eagle's plans for him.

East Fremantle vs Subiaco

East Freo
22 DALZIELL, Bradd 23 disposals 7 kicks 16 handballs 2 marks 5 tackles 2 inside 50's
41 BRENNAN, Jacob17 disposals 10 kicks 7 handballs 4 marks 2 tackles 1 inside 50 2 behinds

Dalziell remains reliable depth while Brennan seems to have pushed forward whilst still playing as a defender (he has done this as the sub at AFL level, so I'm wondering if that's an instruction for him to work on at WAFL?).

Subiaco
30 SINCLAIR, Callum 23 disposals 13 kicks 10 handballs 9 marks 2 tackles 40 hitouts 3 goals 1 behind

Those are monstrous stats and great to see.

South Fremantle vs West Perth

South Freo
37 HAMS, Ashton 15 disposals 9 kicks 6 handballs 2 marks 2 tackles 2 inside 50's 1 goal 2 behinds
45 CARTER, Adam 1 disposal 1 kick 1 mark

I hope Carter isn't hurt too badly (I don't know what has happened but I am assuming something did happen) while Hams did okay from what looked like limited opportunity (South Freo got pumped).

West Perth
8 HUTCHINGS, Mark 25 disposals 20 kicks 5 handball 5 marks 3 tackles 4 inside 50's 1 goal

Great game from Hutchy in the West Perth engine room.

Swan Districts vs Perth

Perth Demons
2 MCINNES, Fraser 9 disposals 3 kicks 6 handballs 2 marks 1 tackle 2 hitouts 1 inside 50 1 behind

Disappointing game for McInnes, hopefully he can shake off what seems like second year blues at the moment.

If anyone has any match reports that'd be great.

Thanks for starting the thread up, erbenz- a good read. I'd heard about Sinclair's game, but Hutchings had a ripper of a game as well by the looks of it. An Eagle's pre-season for those two showing out already.

Premature much?

Premature much?
Yeah it probably is! :D

He was very flat and almost invisible for long portions in the NAB cup games though.

Well, to be fair, in saying that, I doesn't mean I rate him less because of it; it is something a lot of athletes go through and it's difficult to shake off. I'm not going to write him off if he has a flat year.

Is Newman not playing scratch matches either?

If not, I think the club is doing the right thing, his ability isn't an issue, he just needs to keep running.

Newman's hammy is a bit tight, and the club said he's nearly where he should be at, just needs to a tick off a few more boxes.

I think they've begun to integrate him into some group training while he works on his fitness, but he is still a little bit off what they want him to be.

Sinclair played on Cameron Symonds and Tyler Chalwell in the ruck. How Cam Symonds was even considered draftable by Fremantle has me beat, he is so unfit. Subiaco's second ruckman was barely on the ball and reeled in 14 hit-outs.

Sinkers just jumped all over him, he's looking really fit, alot fitter than I have seen him in the last couple of years at this time of the year, so the AFL system is already increasing his output.

He's going to be a really good rookie pick if his body holds up, another strong, agile ruckman who can haul in contested marks playing as a key forward. Basically, he's not redundant if he's not rucking which will allow West Coast to play 2 ruckman all year.

Were there any games on this weekend?

Thanks thorne89, was going to do this in the morning as I'm a bit nervous about what's happened to Hutchy so was just waiting for some match reports to go with the stats.

McLovern and Sinclair both played very well from the looks of things.

3DDD with a huge game! Definitely needs a berth in the big time if Masto's injury persists.

Watched Sinclair's game last weekend against Easts and he was clearly the dominant big man on the ground, his stats proved that but the opposition wasnt that great. Symonds who is a beast in body size but still far off and Chalwell who won't be in the firsts with a fit Rob Young and Jon Griffin back

Will hopefully get to see some at least half of a WAFL games next weekend and will report back. Not sure if stats are accurate or not but thats low possies for Hutch otherwise

What did happen to Hutchy?

Given he only had 8 disposals in the WAFL match I was concerned about an injury or something occurring. I haven't seen anything reported though so maybe he just got tagged heavily?

Maybe he was used sparingly and told not to get too involved so that he could save himself for Round 1 with the Eagles ...... well I can dream! IMO they could have used his grunt work against Port (and the Pies)
