Should be rested this week.

Played every game and is older than Rocca who has missed quite a few.

Melbourne don't have any power forwards and would be good to see Goldsack in the side.

I'm afraid if they keep playing him week in week out he'll be burnt out mid season.

Presti is a couple of weeks away.

Melbourne I guess always have the option of sending Holland or Johnson forward if they play. Wakelin would be handy if that was the case.

FAir call. If not Goldsack, Cox could go back if rocca comes in - much better for him to have 2 games in a row for his development, since he did a good job this week.

Wakes wont be rested. Otherwise i have to change my signature. He plays about 95% of game times also... but didnt look like he needed a rest.

What makes you say he should be rested... because he's older than Rocca???

Very strange thing to say.
He's what, 30,31? has had a fair amount of soft tissue injuries in recent years, v likely due to older body not handling the rigours of AFL as well. Sounds like good player management to me.

He's 33 - 34 in August.

What are you talking about with his "soft tissues" injuries over the past few years????

He was only dropped last year to make way for Clement and Presti a couple of times. He's done a full pre-season again and I cant remember him being injured over the past few years.

You havent made up a few porky pies with these "soft tissue" injuries... which tissues?

Fair assessment.. especially now that Robbo won't be playing this coming week

Maybe some he had stuffed in his pocket on his train trip.

He looks in great nick at the moment - why rest him when he's doing a great job? It would be like 'protecting' The Sheriff because he's so young... not really a good reason in itself. If they're good, let 'em play. Settle the list a bit.

what makes me angry is when we have a loss the old "wakelin looks slow he should retire and give anthony or another young guy their chance" i remember that being said after the hawks loss.

hes so valueable and we are lucky he played on another year, that experience down back you cant put a price on, sure itd be great to bring in another young guy. but with brown being included and getting the experience, we have the right balance atm.

i couldnt imagine he would be wanting to have a rest, unless hes carrying an injury.

If they are winning and winning well the only changes should be through necessity ei. Injury
Wakes played solid footy and as mentioned above we need to settle the list and build a consistent team which knows itself.

was poor against the hawks but hasnt he been back to his best since.

Wakes doesnt want or need a rest, just keep playing him and grandpa will continue to the children a lesson every week

I really like having Wakes there almost like a playing defensive coach for the younger guys down there. Saying that though if there isn't a standout match up for him then it would make sense to bring in either Goldsack or Anthony or alternatively move Cox down back with Rocca coming back in.

When the opposition has some tall forwards then yes keep both Wakes and Brown in the team but for Melbourne we may be too top heavy down back.

I agree. This would be a good week to rest Wakelin. Melbourne are hardly blessed with tall forwards. I don’t know who we’d play Wakelin on. Miller seems the obvious opponent but who not play Brown on Miller? Agree with calls to give Anthony a game.

johsnon/jamar/holland one of those three will play forward this week.

Now neitze and robbo are done they will play one of the monster forwards

I really like Wakes but he's struggled for a lot of this season but has really started getting into his stride the last couple weeks. I think we should give him a chance to keep that momentum going as the break is only in a couple weeks and he can rest then.. He rested 2 weeks ago (exhibition week) and will in a couple weeks, thats more than adequate and I don't want to disturb his rhythm when he's finally starting to play some really good defence..

That said, with Robbo out and Melb being kak at best, there mightn't be a match up for him. If he does come out (only for matchup purposes not for a rest) then I'd like to see Anthony given a crack. I'd prefer him in at Maxwell's expense than Wakelin's tho..

I could've sworn he was out injured a lot in the last couple of years??

Let's not kid ourselves. We've been good enough for a year or two now, yet we somehow manage to get ourselves undone by dropping stupid games, or just limping over the line when we need to put up better performances.

We've always been questioned for our consistencey. When we beat the Cats, there were those saying, 'oh, watch the Pies put in a dampner next week against the Eagles knowing them.'

Here's a real chance to nail some great confidence in our ability to become consistent, but taking the Dees to task this week, and stringing three awesome performances in a row.

So, NO CHANGE... (from the selected side made last Thursday, if Pebs can come up).
