RICHMOND coach Terry Wallace says his side's poor ball-use and decision-making has to change if it is to get back on the winners list, and he is set to swing the axe in order to find players who can play at the top level.

The Tigers looked good for the first 40 minutes of the game, playing-on at every opportunity and holding a four-goal lead through the early stages of the second quarter, but then the Lions put the pressure on and Richmond fell away badly.

Despite losing by a seemingly-respectable 26 points, the Tigers finished with 84 more possessions, had one more inside-50 and even out-tackled the Lions 59-44, but their inability to see and hit targets cost them dearly.

Wallace said the club needed to make changes in order to see which players on the list were up to senior football.

"That's my responsibility coaching at this stage – I'm coaching the Richmond football club for the Richmond football club, and I will do what the Richmond footy club thinks is the right thing to do in regards to having a look at players”, he said after the loss.

"Clearly that's where we're at at the moment – we've got to make some difficult decisions ... We have to work out who are the right guys to take the club forward and who aren’t, and that's exactly what we'll do."

Wallace said the team's decision-making and ball-use were equally poor.

"We had times where guys got the ball and were looking down one tram-track, and we had guys streaming down the other side of the ground out clear.

“The ability to have vision to find them on the other side of the ground – you’ve just got to open up your vision in this game.

"We didn't hit our targets, and also our decision-making was poor."

The coach said he had spoken to the players and put them on notice regarding their positions after what Wallace called a lack of “respect for the ball”.

"The ball is gold in the game, and if you give up gold you're not likely to get it back in a hurry”, he said.

"The disappointing thing for me was that, from midway through the second quarter to midway through the last it was 12 goals to 2, and in that period of time we had one more inside-50 entry than them. We had 29 entries for two goals, and they had 28 entries for 12 goals.

"I reckon the blokes were having a crack, but I thought it was the worst we've disrespected the ball ... They kicked 10 goals in that period from our turnovers, and that's the ball game.”

Now please tell me what does everyone make of this bullcrap article. Shut your mouth Wallace!

Reading between the lines, he's pretty much admitting he won't be around next year.

The rest of it I agree with, but can he actually do anything about it?

Honestly I think he's not far off the mark. We turned it over going in to the 50 far too easily.

How the hell is telling them not to lose possession going to help? Chipping sideways, backwards, anywhere but towards the opposition goals & the opposition is why we lost that game. Only way to fix it is to take risks and get some fast, dangerous movement through the middle before they can set up an impenetrable defense - and that is not possession play.

I wish someone would turn his axe onto him.

He always says we will wield the axe, the thing is, wielding the axe to Wallace will be bringing the likes of McMahon and Brown in.

Goninski.

Terry knows the end is near....indeed he may have a gentleman's agreement on it already. He also knows that he has to say his lines in the play and act his role until the curtain comes down.

In fact his time as Richmond coach is over but he has to go through the endgame as do we all. Pointless theatre before the axe falls in a month or five weeks.

It says to me :
(wallace) I don't have the answers. I don't know which players have sufficent skills.
I didn't realise which players have sufficent skills to execute my high posession, kick short gameplan. I have taken this long to realise that the skills of these players are not up to scratch. Don't expect to win to many more games this year tiger fans as I bumble may way through the year. I realise the longer I stay the weaker Gary March looks and is. I'll spin lines about the future of the richmond football club so that I'm not fired next week.
You'll pretty much hear the same spin next week rephrased after we get smashed in adelaide.

My take on it : I see absolutely no point in keeping someone that has taken this long to judge his players. What will he acheive in the next 15 rounds that he hasn't been able to in 4 and a half years.... Nothing. He's highly paid. If he was in the corporate world he would have been fired ages ago. Look at your premiership clock Terry. Where are we at? Times up terry.

There comes a time when you get sick of the same story after a poor performance, he has used the old weilding of the axe that many times its hard to believe him now.
We have some players who came into the season with plenty of credits in the bank due to their season last year who have stagnated and / or gone backwards, ala Reiwoldt, Moore, White this is when these 2nd year players need clarification of what is exceptable and what isn't , last year they ran on adrenilin , this year they have been terrible, all 3 should have already been sent the same message which our more publicly maligned players like Schulz, Hughes, McMahon, Polo and Connors have been given in the past, please forget about the axe and get some concidency and foresight into the selection process.

"The ball is gold in the game, and if you give up gold you're not likely to get it back in a hurry”, he said.

What a beauty that is :o

WHY DON'T YOU AXE YOURSELF TERRY..

Be a man and concede defeat... let us fans enjoy the rest of the year with Sheedy as caretaker....

BTW - THANK'S FOR NOTHING!
