For the the first time in 70 years it looks like there is a Real battle in the seat of Wannon.

So I thought it was worthy of a new thread.

People are realising that’s the only way to get things done.
Yeah safe seats become lazy and complacent because they don’t have to do as much as swinging seats. It’s the swinging seats that get more funding.

I notice the independent Alex Dyson avoids the colour teal and doesn't seem to list anything about climate change in his priorities, except wanting proper community consultation on offshore wind and being against nuclear power on cost grounds. Still, if the losers at Advance are against him, he must be doing something right.

It’s an intriguing situation…the dirty trick unit operating in a once safe blue ribbon seat is unheard of and against an Independent as opposed to the ALP is even more desperate.

And desperate is the key word. Tehan has gone from being invisible to suddenly everywhere throwing money at any project, safe in the knowledge they’ve got a minimal chance of forming government and having to cough up.

What should be a real concern to the Libs is that many of the “True Believers” have changed teams and are actively supporting and financing the Independent!

I expect Tehan to hang out merely because he is the incumbent but it could be a wild ride.

To be fair to Dyson this is his third crack at it, he started his mission to take Wannon before the teals even existed.

Could probably spam ads against advance and then if they cry claim defense of truth

"Advance are a set of selfish short sighted lying duplicitous scum"
authorised by Crankyhawk of no political party

I think it's understandable, but not technically correct, as Dyson apparently is receiving significant financial support from Climate 200 and people automatically make the connection "Independent" + "Climate 200 backing" + (in Dyson's case) "former 20-year old Triple J host" = "Teal/non-Lib preference"

I think his funding is actually very diverse unlike his opponent, Dyson is actually asking the electorate to think, something they’ve rarely done for 50+ years

Tehan is offering out money for things everywhere. Not that he will have to come forward with the funding though.
I spose he did the same thing last election, and never had to deliver on any of it.

Hopefully people wise up to it.

Traditionally governments don't feel obligated to fund the promises of their opponents.

They've ridden the farmers coattails for years without doing anything for the district.
They wouldn't even visit local towns during elections.
We've had the worst roads in Victoria for over 50 years, worst school infrastructure.
Then as farms get bigger and families get smaller the numbers are changing. We also have seen a lot of city people migrate to smaller towns in the last 6 years.
Tehan was presented with a simple clean seat and ignored it.
Recently he has visited for the 1st time in history local footy clubs and was photographed with kids, footballers, mothers and local legends.
But he still looks out of place and a waste on the seat he represents.
It time for liberals to lose this seat and realise country folk need representation.

We have been staying in Port Fairy for the last week. Just got back to Adelaide. Couple of points:
1 the roads around there are TERRIBLE

2 why is the Lib candidate campaigning against wind farms?

Had a lovely time. Great cafes, pubs, wildlife and natural beauty.

I first came across Dan went I moved to Ballarat from Adelaide. Spent six happy years there before moving back to Adelaide. I added to him to my list of lightweights that became an MP.

Also had the pleasure of visiting a couple weeks ago. Dyson's orange kelpie is some insanely good branding.

Campaigning against wind farms amidst a very dry 12-18 months, in a region seeing a long-term decline in rainfall is a choice. Obviously you'll get the climate deniers and Sky News faithful on board, but they won't be anywhere near a majority here.

He's another nepotism baby, and comes across as a thoroughly unintelligent one at that.
