With Bodey out the lack of a forward crumber is standing out like a sore thumb. So what are our options?

Mcleod - Loathe to take him from the backline, but should still push forward more. When was the last time we saw a Mcleod goal on the run??

Porplyzia - Likely to be out this week, but would be a good option. Has good hands and is the best kick for goal the Crows have ever had.

Vince - Actually has more talent than he knows what to do with. Coach seems to have him playing on the wing at present. He has that element of brilliance that you need around goals.

Douglas - Seems to be doing alright in the midfield and across half back. Not sure if has the nous around goals to be good crumber.

Jericho - Time to bring him back? He's more of a leading option though, not sure if he is a great reader of the ball off hands.

Edwards - Would be great, but then we lose in the midfield. One of the few midfielders for the Crows who does regularly get forward for a goal.

Pfeiffer, Campbell - Havent seen enough of them.

With the above I'm talking about a permanent crumbing forward, not a resting midfielder (although our midfields need to kick more goals).

What I have noticed that Craigy has done last year and this year is that he has improved our tall forward line structure remarkably. We kick much more of our goals from marks than we ever did. The likes of Bock, Perrie, Welsh, Stevens are kicking their 2,3,4 a week all from taking grabs. However we seem to have lost our ability to kick a goal from play.

I would be sitting our forward crumber right under Perrie, because lets face it, once the ball hits the ground Sarge is useless. Sarge is good because he either marks it, or takes the ball to ground - he is rarely beaten. But there is no use taking the ball to ground if no one is there to take it.

Someone needs to stand up and if it were up to me I'd say its all yours Bernie.

Agree Smoovy, definitely the area we are struggling with most. I know it's hard to take out a midfielder with Reilly already missing but I would love to see Edwards in this role. He is brilliant at ground level and has excellent goal sense. I know it is robbing Peter to pay Paul but Paul really needs the money.

Scott Thompson perhaps? I like the idea of Edwards but we need him in the midfield at the moment, same with Scott Thompson.

I don't think Bernie is much of a crumber. He's more similar to Welsh IMO. He's not like Bode, where he gets in the bottom of packs and wins the ball down from clearances. Bernie kind of sits back and waits for things to happen. He has silky smooth skills ad doesn't miss set shots all that often. I think the pressure and high intesity of AFL makes him nervous and if he's able to let that go, think the sydney game, he will be quite an assest to our forward line.

Edwards is very good in that role, even if he doesn't spend the whole game down there, he'd fill that role nicely.

Would probably aid Pfeiffer in his pursuit for senior selection.

I agree with you that he is not like Bode in that respect, but I don't think a crumber needs to be someone who wins the ball from the bottom of the packs. Our forward line has a surprising amount of space in it. I think the lack of bodies in contested situations in the Crows forward line is to Bernie's advantage.

Scott Thompson is a very good resting midfielder up forward. Can take a good mark for his size. Midfielders like him kicking goals are the key to the crows kicking big scores.

Edwards would be my choice, but I think Douglas could be worth a shot too.

I don't mind the idea of resting a mid down there instead of on the bench - if we had a decent small crumbing forward last week we would have won.

And we need Welsh back - need a leading forward, the other guys can be too static.

I can tell you right now that Bernard is a brilliant set shot kick USUALLY. This is why it's been so disappointing to see him miss some pressure shots. But when you've not even cracked the 10 game mark, and a match-winning kick rests with you it's not easy. He's ridiculously talented but just hasn't found his "comfort zone" yet.

Pfeiffer is one I've now seen a few games of, but I see him as more of a grunty goal kicking midfielder than a crumber.

Then there's Mackay...I'd say looking at his attributes he could be a crumbing prospect, but he's so damn talented you'd want a clone of him in the midfield too.

I saw Pheiffer in a game for Norwood crumb and kick a goal so quick the cameraman had trouble keeping up with him.... from that moment I knew at some stage he would play for AFC... it was all class :thumbsu:

That just defeats the purpose of giving the midfielder a rest. If a defender is smart he will just take off and run him up and down the ground and not allow him to get any rest, have him rotated via the bench and have a permanent small forward in the side.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Graham Johncock being played in that role.

And whom fills Johncocks role in the backline:confused:

Marty Mattner has been abler to adapt to that role and done a pretty good job. Richard Douglas has shown he has potential to be a good small defender and then move into the midfield.

If anyone comes into the side this week, I want it to be Pfeiffer. I've only watched bits and pieces from SANFL replays so to see a full game from the kid in an AFL environment will be both intriguing and exciting. :thumbsu:

If Johncock is so important to the defensive back six please inform us with your wealth of football knowledge. Who would you consider to be a legitimate option as a forward line crumber?

Peter Vardy. >_> :D

Seriously he was a terrific crumber. Did he have electrifying pace though?

I can't wait until 5:30 when we get the teams, I want them now! :p

Just hoping Pfeiffer is named! I haven't been this excited over someone's debut for quite some time. Cmon Craigy, give Pfeif a chance! He’s versatile and can play as a rebounding defender, or as a goal sneak or his preferred position, on the wing.

If Pfeiffer is named that will help out the Roosters tomorrow night ;)

4:30 now young son.

Sorry I will calm down.

Be honest with you, I don’t think he is ready but if he is I will be bloody stoked for him because young kids inject a level of excitement in the team and the crowd.

I tell you what though, Motlop better not play, he always kicks a bag and takes a few hangers whenever he plays in the SANFL. And why do all the AFL players always seem to play against Norwood. :o
