Dissapointed in cricket Australia changing his game making him play more safely.

Used to love watching him bat, now hes been told to play a diff way, keep it along the ground play safe.
Dont need the team to score 300 plus at greater than a run a ball.
Stick to our gameplan of just aim for 260 - 300 an rely on bowlers to do the rest.

Cant remember the last time we ever batted a team out of a game in 1dayers, we always play very cautiously.
Always giving teams a sniff.

If we lose this game its due to them toning down Warner.
Only seen 1st innings so far so no idea how Sri lanka will go but as usual if they bat sensibly they have a great chance.

I would much rather see Warner get 60 off 40, 30 off 15, 20 off 15 or when he gets lucky 100 off around 70.
Great entertainment an sets us up for a big total.
Shouldnt be his job to see out the innings thats for the other opener an guys coming in at 3 or 4.

So congrats cricket aus on turning an exciting batsmen into another boring clone.

Dear god, not sure if srs? Trolling surely. I'll bite anyway, assuming you do mean it.

Where is this Cricket Australia directive instructing Warner to tone down his scoring rate and stroke making? Maybe he responded to a slow, low pitch by starting off cautiously, but just couldn't quite get it going towards the end. It happens. Sri Lanka contained him well and I'd say fatigue played a large part in the latter part of his innings.

If (when) we lose this game, it's because none of our bowlers could contain the Sri Lankan batsmen or take wickets. Lee and co have been laughably bad, just as Jayawardene and Dilshan have played some sublime cricket strokes (coupled with a dose of luck). We may have been 10-20 runs short, but 271 is a perfectly defendable target.

Besides, the man just scored 163 off 157 balls literally 2 days ago. Getting out for 20 off 10 balls might be awesome entertainment for the Neanderthals, but it hardly sets up our innings. Discouraging a batsman from batting out 50 overs is a ridiculous attitude, regardless of his renown as a power hitter.

To me there meaningless 1 dayers dont care if we win or lose would like to win though.

I want entertainment in 1 dayers

An the directive came from Ponting or Clarke 1 of them mentioned it in an interview earlier in series.
So it could of come from above them.
In interview they mentioned how they may need to do what they did with Gilly tell him not to hit anything in the air for 10-15 overs.
Clearly been told to tone it down an play more safely.

let him play his natural entertaining game leave the batting out innings for others.
Boring 1 dayer so far :(

I want entertainment that means taking a few risks like we saw Clarke do late in innings.

We will win some an lose some playing more aggressively but there meaningless, its all about entetainment so go for it.

Just need to look at crowd numbers too see what they think of the way Aus plays 1 dayers.
Far too predictable an boring.

Not sure if this link will work http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en...eam=2;template=results;type=team;view=innings

list of all our innings from 09 -12
can clearly see our gameplan is to score between 260 -285.
Safe no ononsense boring cricket.
Sometimes they get an absolute belter of a wicket an score abit more but generally no matter what the wicket they stick to the same gameplan.

I would rather see us go down swinging an missing
Than go down sticking to safe gameplan that never takes into consideration how good the batting wicket is.

I will stick to test cricket

Thats true cricket
I dont care how they play that one i just want to see us win.
If we have to play defensively an grind out the runs i dont care.

Its a true test to find the better team
Doesnt rely on 1 or 2 players playing well.
takes a team effort.

1 dayers an 20/20s are meaningless
doesnt matter if you win or lose unless its a worldcup.
Its about entertainment

Before 09 we didnt set our goal for 260 -280 we tried to score as much as possible.
They were entertaining to watch.

Now boring an far too predictable.
Make it entertaining again an the crowds will be back.

In hindsight we were 40-50 runs short, and had a bucket of wickets in hand late in the innings, so perhaps Warner (and Clarke) could have "gone" earlier......
Just got home - mate I was with was filthy at Warner's strike rate; said itd cost us the game at change of innings...

I told him he was being harsh.

Warner was selfish today. You only had to watch the contrast between Clarke and Warner.

I love watching warner bat, but i actually went back to work for an extra hour because it was so boring and SELFISH

Aww poor Big Footy, Warner is scoring 100's again so they need a new reason to hate him.

Perhaps if we had a bowler who knows how to put in two good perfomances in a row..

8 wickets in hand 8 overs to go and warner was looking for singles for 5 overs..... But yeah lets not criticise him....

I'd rather critisise the guys who got out early without really contributing to the total score, but hey, that's me.

We can't all think logically.

I bloody love Warner. He is fantastic. Great part of the Australian team. I didn't have a problem with him until today when we had 10 overs to go, and he was bumping singles and dots around.

Big fan of the old warner

Not a fan of the changed warner playing to the stupid gameplan of scoring 260-280 odd no matter how good the wicket is to bat on.

I thought with Nielsen gone that gameplan would go also but nope we are stuck with it.

What good is scoring 100 if it costs you the game an forces others to not play their natural game an get out.

Let him play his natural game if he fails who cares.
Its guys like Clarke,Forrest, MHussey etc to look to play out the innings.

Let Warner play his natural game
have faith in those coming in after to play their natural game

If they fail so what its meaningless atleast we had some entertainment

Sri lanka play 1 dayers properly they bat according to the pitch
If its a good batting wicket they play their shots an look to score as much as possible.
If its difficult to bat on they play abit safer

We score 260 -280 odd no matter what the pitch is doing.
Sometimes we get lucky an 1 batsmen goes crazy in a late hitting frenzy allowing us to get over 280 but very rarely.

Thats crap mate. 8 overs to go 8 wickets in hand and he was playing for his 100 for 5 overs.... jas andolutely nothing to do with blokes getting out early. It was selfish. Undeniably so.

I'm honestly failing to see how scoring 280 consistently is a bad thing. I'd say most people would rather be guaranteed a score of 280 than the possibility of 300+ with a risk of faltering and being rolled for 230.

Like I said before, he scored 163 from 157 balls 2 days ago. You're being unreasonable and reactionary based on one difficult innings. It's not Warner losing us games, it's our terrible bowling.

Dude getting out for 30 after 15 balls means u still only made 30 runs. Even worse prob is u have others to come in to start again. Also mate, cricket is not played for you or your mates or me or the fans, cricket is played for Australia.

This is the exact thing Warner needs. Warner needs to curb his twenty20 mentality in ODI and test in order to become a powerhouse open with ability to read the opposition and counter attack.

Will be interesting to see how he bats on Thursday.

I'm not going to put all the blame on him, I didn't see his whole innings today but the Top 3 has been a problem for Australia all summer in the one dayers. Wouldn't surprise me if he was told to take a few less risks to prevent a mini collapse at the start of the innings.

I can only guess, but perhaps he was thinking 'get the 100 then open up scoring at 2 runs a ball'. If he gets 130 then he closes the gap on balls faced, unfortunate he got out when he did. That said even with that in mind he was was probably 10 balls slower than he wouldve liked. 100 @ 130 balls he couldve caught that up.

As ive posted in a few threads now, i believe we should bat deeper. Here we have this strike weapon that can destroy teams in the first 15overs yet because we're afraid of losing early wickets we have him bat like an accumulator. An extra bat, he's it, roll the dice.

Problem for us and him has been he tried and got out in the early games and come under pressure as the team struggled to post scores. We lose 3 wickets and we're only a couple more away from exposing Christian. While he can bat he's not in the league of our main stays such as Watson, Clarke, Hussey, Hussey, Wade and you dont want him having to bat 15-20 overs too often.

From a technique and temperament point of view, it was easily his best innings playing for Australia.

Understandable if he had started slow and improved his rate as the innings progressed, but his second 50 was slower than his first. His last 20 runs came off 36 balls. He didn't up his scoring rate at any stage. I know people don't want to appear to be in the T20 crowd, but the rate at which a batsman scores is kind of important in a limited overs match.
