I think he'll be going to either Melbourne or VISY.

Wouldn't think we're much chance after securing Wood last year.

I don't think we'll be in the market.

Wood has shown just as much as Warnock has.

I think his price will be way too high for what he has shown to date which if a trade can be done and he doesn't walk to the PSD will favor Freo.

I think if it comes to it Melbourne will offer one of picks 17 or 19 to secure him because they are obviously very very keen.

I don't like him. He goes and meets with Melbourne, says to Vic clubs "come and get me" like he's a fricken superstar. In reality he's just a promising young ruckman.
So similar to Jeff "im kinda like Jordan" White then?

I reckon we talk to him and the dockers and see what the cost is. Worth a crack if he the dockers aren't demanding more than our second rounder.

A year too late for this club Mr. Warnock...

Why how right you are.

Wood was drafted higher, rated higher and IMO will turn out to be the better prospect too now that he is learning from his idol- Big Josh.:D

We will also add Keefe as our developing ruckman come draft time so there is no real need for us to be in the market for Warnock.

However, it would be nice to have him than Bryan but I guess you can't have everything.

Put it this way. It would be like Shannon Cox auctioning himself off to Freo and West Coast, having meetings, and a lot of media coverage. I guess he's getting a lot of coverage only because he's the first to openly come out and say he will be traded, but it's not the biggest coup to draft him.

I wouldn't mind him either but the price would be likely a first round pick or high 2nd round.

If they are really keen they need do nothing - or at least not much. A 4th round pick for Freo might be better than losing him for nothing in the PSD.

I don't reckon they'll get a first round pick in this draft. Maybe one of the PP from the Weagles or Dees. If the Blues chase hard which some say they will a team like us would have to offer up our first round pick. But we won't do that, so I assume we're out of it unless we can get a player swap deal.

I obviously don't know Warnock, but if he is any sort of person he will at least try to help Freo get compensated.

I know it doesn't always happen though.

Would be nice to have him, but we are not in the market for him now. Although would mean Bryan would no longer be required and would have 2 big young ruckman to backup Fraser.

If we had held off last year and not got Wood we would definitely be front runners given we gave up our first round for Wood. Given Woods nil effect on the year this may have worked out well for us & the Dockers, but at the end of the day I think they will both be around the same level of ruckman and this years draft is stronger.

Carlton, Melbs & Rich will all be in front of us with a second round offer, if the Dockers are after draft picks.

Would anyone go for a Cox (WA boy) for Warnock or an Egan plus 3/4th roud pick?

The thing is; a first round pick (#14) is worth more this year than last. Credit where it's due, we picked the right year to trade up, in fact we have done the last two years by trading into the 2006 mega-draft by saying goodbye to Tarrant, and out of last year's thin draft by giving up #14 for Wood.

The word is that Warnock's preferred destination is VISY, but providing he's true to his word of "working with his manager to get the best possible deal for Fremantle", Melbourne are still in the box seat. Shaun Hampson mustn't be too happy if Carlton are going after a third young, scrawny ruckman in as many years. Spending Picks #1 and #18 or so on ruckmen in the last two drafts apparently wasn't enough.

That's why I'd be surprised if we went after Warnock. He's after game time - the same as Wood last year - so to trade for him would mean one of Wood or Warnock would be in the VFL when both moved to look for AFL action.

Unless we were planning on using Josh as part of a deal for Kerr????

That's the only scenario in which I could see us getting involved... and even then it only works on BF and not in the real world. :p

Not interested.

I have been disappointed by both Wood and Bryan this year, but I'm placing my bets on them improving over the pre-season.

And I'm surprised Carlton would be chasing another tall.

I don't even understand why Carlton are in the market for him.

I think they just want to say "we got our player we wanted"

I think it's because Hampson has a great leap, and is very quick, but doesn't necessarily have a football brain. What's more, Cloke isn't much as a ruckman, Ackland's worse, and both will be gone by the time Gibbs and Murphy are entering their prime.

There's also the probability that as rucks are getting rapidly taller, Kreuzer is only going to be a mobile key forward and ruck pinch-hitter down the track.

Luckily for us, by the time Gibbs and Murphy are entering their prime; Stevens and Fev will have retired and Judd will be past his best/looking to move into his cushy full-time job at VISY folding boxes for $10m per year.

I can see why Carlton might want to throw Hampson/Kreuzer/Warnock in the melting pot and see who survives, but aside from the Pratt factor I'll be buggered as to why Warnock would want to subject himself to it. He could be the #1 ruck from the get-go at Melbourne with virtually no competition.

If Warnock went to Melbourne he would be their number one man as soon as he walked in through the doors.

No brainer for me.

Unless Carlton believe Hampson will ditch them for GC17.

That's the only thing I could think of - they need help for Fev so they may be thinking Kreuzer to play forward with Warnock and Hampson in the ruck.

Still think you are right though - Melbourne or even Richmond & St Kilda seem a better fit for Warnock.

There's quite a few players whom BF members think will abscond for the GC17... I think it's more of a BF conspiracy-theory than reality though. Kurt Tippet is another. Supposedly they'll have better pay due to the increased salary cap, and they get to live closer to home, but they're not likely to be all that competitive on-field initially. Most players from Qld would get drafted with the understanding that those are the demands of their chosen career, for the 10 years or so that they play.
