Warnock

If warnock shafts us by entering the PSD then I hope football karma bites his arse and he plays only 20 games for the dees before injuries force him into early retirement. If he helps us secure a fair trade then all the best to him, I understand his desire to go home.

I think we'll learn a bit about the kids character anyway

But surely the trade or lack there of is between Frmenatle and Melbourne? After Warnock decides which club he wants to play for his involvement is done. It's not like he'll sit in on negotiations during trade week. Melbourne will definately offer something for him, whether it's even close to reasonable is the $64,000 question.

Tarrant, Carr etc probably didn't even know who they were traded for, all they cared about was getting the trade done. And if the trade wasnt done and they could have got to Fremantle via pick one in the PSD they probably would have.

Very few players would have the integrity of Judd and ask their prospective new clubs what compensation they plan to give their old club before selecting a club.

Efa.

Melbourne will not go out looking to screw Fremantle and pick up Warnock in the PSD. If Warnock wants to leave a trade will be done, bookmark it.

Clubs these days can not afford to burn bridges like that.

Warnock wants to come to melbourne because of his brother matthew warnock. We also could use another ruckman. To suggest that we would give you pick 19 for him is an absolute joke, especially when we can get him for free. Warnock was pick 42 for crying out loud, what makes you think that he has risen up from a 3rd round draft pick to a priority pick at the end of the first round. We lost scott thompson(10 times the player that Robbie Warnock will ever be) for pick 12 so we know what its like to be screwed over.

By that logic Judd was only worth one first round pick and the Blues got shafted because they parted with a first rounder, a second rounder and Kennedy (who was also a first round pick).

Also IIRC Russell Robertson was a really late pick or off the rookie list, by your logic if you had traded him a couple of years ago for pick 60 it would have been a good deal?

And Melbourne have a far younger and talented list than fremantles who struggle to have many talented youngsters outside palmer, ibbotson and mayne.

Nathan Jones, Sylvia, Mclean, Cale Morton, Stef Martin, S.Buckley, Bate, Maric, Garland and Wonaeamirri look to be shaping our future. Throw in Jack Grimes(2007 pick no.14) and Petterd(who is considered to be our most talented youngster) who are both returning from injury and our future looks considerably better than yours.

not to mention better 2008 draft picks. And financially speaking the AFL is continuing to loan us money each year. We were the first club in the afl and the afl needs the tradition in our game and thus, will not allow us to go under.

A loan is money that is given to you and you then pay it back. The AFL is not loaning you money, they are giving you money - your club could never pay back all the money that has been handed over. The TV rights deal requires 16 clubs - that is why you still survive. I wouldn't count on so many handouts once the two new clubs come in.

Funny that most are reporting he's worth 350-500k/year and yet Melbourne think a player worth that should only get a 3rd round pick? lol.

No wonder they are bankrupt, they have no brain.

The question is do we make a stand like the Power did with Stevens?

If the Demon's arn't going to offer us anything more than 4th round pick, from a pride perspective is it better to let the prick just go to the PSD?

Their 4th rounder will be pick 51 so we'd probably accept it relucantly. That will probably be their first offer, maybe coupled with a mediocre player.

If he wants to come back to Victoria, Carlton might be interested in him Superstar Cain Ackland and Cloke can only get you so far. I actually dont mind Cloke as a depth player but our rucks Hampson and Kruezer are still too young and are getting murdered by the bigger bodied ruckman out there.

Also we can offer him a brighter future than Melbourne, we actually have a future:D.

Important question is can Warnock carry 1st ruck duties?

He was doing a reasonable job of it whilst Sandi was injured last year.
He's still only young and doing well for a big guy of his age.
Most people forget that the big guys mature late, so if Wannock is showing what he is now, imagine what he could be once he's completely matured.

Bosun, have you actually seen Robbie Warnock? I reckon Kreuzer would be as solid if not more solid than him. I personally don't believe he will be ready for the 1st ruck position for at least another season, maybe 2. He's put on a fair bit of weight over the last couple of seasons, but he is still very, very lightly built.

Warnock can't do it in the WAFL yet so i doubt he'd be capable in the AFL. No idea how much closer another pre-season would get him but it's unlikely he'd be ready until at least 2010.

Kruezer and Warnock would be a good combination though, as they'd compliment each other well. Warnock could ruck 60-70% of the game with Kruezer up forward.

That's one of the reason's I'm not to concerned about losing Warnock - despite his potential - as long as we are adequately compensated. Sandilands and Warnock are very similar in the roles they perform.

Warnock & Kruezer would be a very good combination in a couple of years. IF he decides he wants to return home, we'd like a second party (other than Melbourne) to show interest and Robbie to show interest in them.

Yeah thats why I asked, Ive only seen glimpses of Warnock so I cant really tell if it would be worthwhile to trade for him. Nothing against Warnock but we already have two ruckman who are developing we dont need a 3rd, we need a ruckman who can take the hits and match it with the bigger boys.

Maybe it's time we dusted off the projector and put our own little presentation together.

Moody or McGrath anyone?

Chook had been thinking for a while that moody would be a good pickup for us ...and after watching him play on saturday against the bullies im convinced the dockers should make a play for him .... nice long penetrating kick and good skills pace and balance... bring him home i say...

The bold section is the most important one. I'm sure all ten Victorian clubs would like to have Warnock on their list.

Warnock's not your man then. He's going to get smashed if he goes to a club were he has to take the no1 ruck and cope with the big boys running into him all season.

Be careful what you wish for Robbie...

my comments about injury were only said in the case of him shafting us via the psd. If you blokes want to wish him well if he decides to enter the psd rather than seek a mutually beneficially trade then that's your perogative, personally if he does the wrong thing by Freo then he can get stuffed

Sorry if its a dumb question, has Morton signed a new contract yet, if so how long? In regards to Warnock, I hope Melbourne does the right thing and not try and screw us over, but I think we won't get too much for him unfortunately, I hope Warnock stands up by the club which helped developed him and tell Melbourne he wants what is best for both clubs. Not sure what will happen though.

From what I can find, Matthew Warnock is out of contract at the end of this season. I don't think he's anything too special, but we have identified that we have some weaknesses in our backline. If Robbie only wants to go to Melbourne to play with his brother, why don't we attempt to bring Matthew here?

He's 24, 192cm and 93kg.
