i think i will start up this thread seeing as though all the broadcasters are starting to talk about it, and now bobby b and seth have brought it up. i wouldnt mind catching up with a few of you blokes, see what you look like and how much beer you can drink..haha

touch wood, with all things going to plan, we should have 2 runners over the carnival.

- fullta

-spiflicate

i can feel the smell in the air this time of year and with the nights shortening and a slight chill, i know its may race time.

im keen as mustard to go all 3 days, but seeing as though im doing advanced diploma in horse management up at glenormiston atm, i might not be able too!!!

local horse stamus pro hounor who ran a bold race today at oakbank would have to be a chance in the grand annual after that performance!!!

Surely 3 days at the carnival would be part of that course GF?

Fullta - what does the course lead you into?
I gather the long term goal would be to train.
Stable foreman for a while?
Just interested in the process.

it go's for two years. i have just finished my 1st term.

glenormiston is near terang, so it isnt right near the bool, so im not sure what will happen.

after this course i can become a stud manager, but after ive finished i would like to work in a stable somewhere in australia for a year or so, then travel overseas to work- probably in ireland, because i have relations there. if i could get a job in dubai i would be stoked.

and then overall, come home and train horses as a hobby for the old man, and in my spare time, just do part time work on our dairy farm!!

ive got it all worked out...haha

I am part owner of a Robbie Laing trained horse called Poker Face - we have big hopes for him in the big race on the Thursday.

ALso have accommodation booked down there.

Where are all you guys staying? How will the pub be at night?

Was thinking about heading down on Grand Annual Day on the V/Line but have heard its a horror trip - particularly on the way home with people throwing up everywhere and the like. Anyone experienced it before?

the Atmosphere is beginning to build around warrnambool now. hurdle and steeple trials are on monday, and word has it that over 60 horses are trialling, this being a record.

good to here horses such as douro valley and dolphin jo are being aimed at the cup. also some sprinters who are running tomorow in s.a may come to the bool for the wangoom ex. sassbee, shablec etc.

11 days to go:D

Being a local 'bool man meself, the carnival is one of the highlights of the year. Just a great day to cut loose and have a good punt!

Would love to see horses like Douro Valley and Dolphin Jo going round in the cup.

remarkable fields, these are the best nominations for the may carnival ever, and im not being carried away!!
  • 56 horses entered for the maiden hurdle on tuesday
  • 41 for the maiden over 1200m on tuesday
  • 45 horses entered for spiflicates race
  • 43 entered for the wangoom handicap

have a look, and once you have, you will be wanting to come to this carnival!!! on first glance, it looks like its going to be hard to back winners though...

Looks like the Kid will be having a crack at defending the cup, will get in with pretty much the same weight he had last year and will be a good e/w chance again. Will then on go on to the Andrew Ramsden (formerly Duke of Norfolk) where on his Sydney Cup run he will be a great chance. Look forward to getting down to the Bool again.

4 days to go!!

altough the fields dropped off for tuesday, they are still good fields. after a quick look horses such as cool trent, pay the aces, maximisation, redpollard and sunraysia all look to have good chances
