Play Nice Was that Gaffs last game for WC?

If Gaff had hit Brayshaw slightly differently, Brayshaw does not break his jaw and he gets 1 or 2 weeks.

The intent should should be graded on equal basis to the impact, and if you throw a punch or elbow you should get 1 week.

Tom Mitchell Elbowed someone off the ball, and did not get 1 week.
Agree the fact Mitchell got off for that is a joke. Height notwithstanding he tried to belt a bloke in the head, while the ball wasn't even in play. Should've gone no worries at all.

He swung a punch to his chest, with the intent of pushing him out of the way, because Brayshaw had just run up to him to block his run.

That was my take on his evidence.

As Brayshaw was moving past him, to his left and crouched forward, the fist landed flush with Brayshaws jaw, cleaning him up.

He admits the strike, that it got him high, and that it caused severe impact. First thing he did at the tribunal was plead guilty to all three of those elements.

He has the right to explain what he was trying to do.

Come on people; it's not like Gaff walked over to the kid and lined up his face and went whack.

The force applied should be sufficient to demonstrate ill-intent.

There was sufficient force behind the punch to break someone’s jaw. Where a punch with that level of force was directed shouldn’t be of any consequence.

Eagles CEO - waited far too long to make a statement then said they played golf together - complete fabrication.
Eagles Coach - says he believes it wasn’t intentional & made a fool of himself
Eagles Lawyer - we want 3 week.

Gaff - I apologize and take full responsibility & hope Brayshaw recovers quickly.

Only bloke to not embarrass himself after the incident at the Eagles is the bloke who punched Brayshaw.

Genuinely felt for Gaff speaking after and accept he’s remorseful. Apparently will meet Angus while in melb and expect the family will then all move on.

I was referring to the 35-40 weeks...
Mate.

Smith's penalty was OTT. A different sport, different circumstances, and applied in a different way.

You were a legit ****ing moron, in the way you compared them. I was chill about it, more than I should have been.

Cheating tends to attract extreme sanctions. That's because it undermines the integrity of the game. In this case a global competition with hundreds of millions passing through betting markets, sponsorships etc. It's also the way they handled the situation, being team leaders.

The penalty was one measured in time.

Gaff's was a penalty measured in matches. They made sure that the penalty strayed into next season. Yes Smith's was longer, and yes, for Gaff, the penalty will include the offseason. Smith's also includes downtime, but they aren't really comparable.

Not in any way.

If you had complained that he should have been charged, due to the severity of punching someone, then fine. But to compare wildly different circumstances across codes is absurd. If it's a violence v cheating argument, well a few of the gutless cowards on your side should be sitting out for a while then.

How many grubs is it now? Vickery (gone), Conca, Cotchin, Houli and Rance?

the bolded is the key. the media will move onto the next jake king story, or danger busting a toe nail surfing in his suit, or bomber t and his soap opera. there is always something coming down the pike

10 teams over two means the focus gets spread
Nahhhh, they will string the news cycle out longer.

Every new change will be a media event. With far larger focus. New club, first day back, first run in with Brayshaw, why aren't you talking to the press, first game against WC, against Fremantle, every coach, teammate etc. will be a chance for an interview.

Was gaff remorseful because he punched the bloke or Brownlow medal and chance of winning a flag were gone?
Very hard to read the way he defend himself in the tribunal .One minute he said stomach the next chest .

Genuinely remorseful. He was sick with himself and completely guttered minutes after the punch. He was on the bench and didn't want to come back on. His brother is Gaff's teammate.

Showed more humility than the club in all honesty

And if Goldstein's jaw got broken he would've copped a lengthy spell too.

In the end it is the result that often informs the suspension - if any. Gaff deserved eight under the current system of how the AFL and tribunal treat suspendable offences. Not saying it's right or wrong, by the way - just the way it is.

Agree its the way it is for now. Still, fun to discuss in hope the AFL may one day listen.
The loading shouldn't be for the damage you did cause, it should be for the damage you could have caused.
And I don't care how the legal system works, it's pretty clear that's broken, why tf would we want to copy that :drunk:

You've completely mischaracterised what Simpson and Grace have said.

Coach - didn't intend to hit Brayshaw in the head
Lawyer - high contact/high impact/intentional cases attract 3 weeks as a starting point - acknowledged it wasn't on the lower end of the scale (obviously, Brayshaw had his jaw broken and teeth lost) but it's what you start with before slapping a penalty.

None of what Simpson or Grace said is fake news. Stop letting your bias cloud the actual evidence out there.

Nisbett's golf thing is bizarre, though, I agree.

Why would it?

The majority of media are based in Vic. Local papers aren't much, compared to nationally syndicated shitshows.

they still hound cousins over there

we have a pie fapping on webcams, bomber t with a ladyboy, and robbo being drunk on air 24/7, but the media pretty much couldnt give a ****
