I read it before and after. The poster is not supporting Gaff in what he did. "Righteous" is a poor choice of word, the poster was showing concern for on-field retribution by other Freo players.

Spare me the rubbish about “aiming for the chest” “misjudged”. AFL players do tonnes of boxing. For cardio purposes sure, but you can still aim your fist. Plus hand eye coordination in AFL players is generally better than your average person.

You're right, all I can think is that he didn't realise he got him flush but surely he would have known.
Even if he wasn't looking properly he would have felt it I would have thought.
