Play Nice Was that Gaffs last game for WC?

would be interesting to see the full reel of an actual taggers job on of the much better players who get tagged.
they got to a whole 7 incidents with Gaff, I reckon Fyfe has had 7 in the first 5 minutes of some games.
Good thing Fyfe has never punched someone in the head off the ball... or in the guts. -_-

I think a punch to the face is different to what Cameron did. If you think they’re the same that’s on you.

Dude, that's exactly what I'm saying!

If we are taking into account the context of the punch and not just the elements of the offence (i.e. that Gaffs strike was worse because of how it happened) then Gaff is allowed to introduce evidence about how it happened that indicate it was not worse.

Get it? If Gaffs strike was worse because it was a straight out punch to the face off the ball, then he gets to also argue it wasn't as bad as that because he wasn't aiming for his face at all, and the only reason it hit him high was a horrible accident.

It's obvious that:

1. Gaff was frustrated due to the tactics employed by Fremantle
2. He lashed out and tried to smack Brayshaw in the chest
3. He messed up his punch and smacked him in the face
4. The hit must have ended up in the worst possible place to end up in that much damage - unlucky for Brayshaw in that he will have to live with the injuries and Gaff that he will cop a much larger penalty due to the injury
5. Brayshaw should be banned for trying to bite Gaff's knuckles

12-15 weeks minimum is what I’d give it

Horrific outcome teeth lost nerve endings ruined
Can’t eat
Won’t play this year

Gaff should miss the year to catch up and then a penalty so double it id go to 20

It should impact this guys career like he did to the kid

Lucky not to be charged by police

Im not talking about 'good bloke'. I am talking about his actions.

He didnt intend to strike Brayshaw high (however he did intend to strike him). He was aiming for his chest (so he intended the strike, and that element is made out) but it's still relevant that he didnt line Brayshaws jaw up and try and rub him out. He swung at his chest, and Brayshaws forward momentum and crouched stance lead to the strike landing high, and hitting with a greater force.

If that's accepted, it should be slightly mitigating. He'll still get multiple weeks, but not some kind of 'line in the sand' punishment.

Its certainly different context to Lethal walking up behind someone in a huddle and clocking them in the jaw (aiming for said jaw) as they have their back to him (for example).
So it’s ok and relevant that instead of trying to break his jaw he was aiming for his chest where his force clearly could have broken a rib or worse put him into cardiac arrest

It's obvious that's what the eagles are arguing, but it's obviously not the truth

“I meant to hit him in the chest. I feel sick I hit Andrew in the face. (I had) absolutely no intention to hit Andrew where I hit him. Tried to do a similar hit (to) what I did 10 seconds earlier with my right arm,” Gaff explained.

“In a split second, his body has lowered significantly. I’ve hit him, meaning to hit him in the chest. I’ve hit him in the face.

“Once I saw him lying on the ground, I instantly felt sick. Mentally, I didn’t want to keep playing. Physically, I was able to keep playing. But mentally, I felt shattered.

Snap. Called it.

You’re getting confused with the grading of the offence and the actual offence. There’s no higher grading that what this offence was graded. Same as Cameron. There’s no degrees of grading beyond high, intentional, severe. That is it.

Of course the circumstances of offence are different. At no point did I say they were the same. If it was a horrible accident as you contend, they’d be arguing for a downgrading of the charge to careless. They haven’t!

I have also said that its their right to argue mitigation but in this instance its got no chance given they’ve already accepted the grading of the offence as intentional. They can argue all they want about it being aimed at the chest etc but the outcome is the outcome and throwing a round arm in response to the “close checking” is not a reasonable or mitigating factor in the action.

As I said, his record would have a far better chance of any mitigation. That’s it.
