12-15 weeks minimum is what I’d give it

Horrific outcome teeth lost nerve endings ruined
Can’t eat
Won’t play this year

Gaff should miss the year to catch up and then a penalty so double it id go to 20

It should impact this guys career like he did to the kid

Lucky not to be charged by police
I'm sure you felt the same way about Hall.

Gaff rejects Gleeson's suggestion that in being horrified at punching Brayshaw, he has reconstructed in his mind what his actual intentions were.

You’re getting confused with the grading of the offence and the actual offence. T

No mate, you are.

Gaff admits it was [high, intentional strike, severe impact]. He plead guilty. Thats the offence and the grading.

Now we move onto mitigation (for the player) where he argues he didnt mean to strike his face at all, it was totally out of character, he meant to hit his chest, it was Brayshaws momentum that contributed to the damage etc as opposed by the AFL Counsel who will argue that it was a front on king hit and deserves more than 5 weeks.

Gaff should announce which vic club he is going to so eagles fans don’t have to blindly defend his actions
I'm not blindly defending him.

I believe him, but 7 weeks makes sense. If WaPol had decided to charge Gaff, that would make sense also. I don't agree that a punch on the footy field, is different than one elsewhere.

Interesting to see the differing views here as to Gaff's credibility.

Running off afterwards doesn't help him, but it is explainable. I hope he is asked why. He'll probably say he was slightly in shock, didn't realise how bad it was, instinct was to follow the footy etc. Probably a small piece of him also thought "maybe the camera didn't catch it". Easy to judge these things harshly in hindsight.
It's obvious that:

1. Gaff was frustrated due to the tactics employed by Fremantle
2. He lashed out and tried to smack Brayshaw in the chest
3. He messed up his punch and smacked him in the face
4. The hit must have ended up in the worst possible place to end up in that much damage - unlucky for Brayshaw in that he will have to live with the injuries and Gaff that he will cop a much larger penalty due to the injury
The afl process is pretty mechanical remorse may get a slight reduction but the rest is irrelevant.

It’ll be for nothing, he’s getting more than 5. So much for mitigation

Former Carey Grammar principal Phil De Young has provided a written character reference for Gaff, saying: "He is a fine young man."

Bwahaha

Gaff getting rattled. One minute a punch to the stomach, then chest, now a push. Supports Gleeson's argument of reconstruction of events.

What if he got Brayshaw in the throat?

So it's not obvious then, is it.

You can use video evidence, biomechanical experts etc to help figure it out but yes in the end you cannot really know for certain what the intentions of a player are at the time.

I can believe one thing and Freo supporters will believe another. Both can be justified by the available physical evidence.

Sounds like a few in here think it’s ok to absolutely clobber-in some kids face, as long as you say you were aiming for his gut. Once you throw a punch you’re responsible for where it goes, Gaff is the one that threw the punch so therefore he’s gotta be punished. His intent was to punch, its irrelevant where he intended to punch.
